Rather than, "in 15 years some rich people in charge of corporations or governments are going to give us a hard time," we have "I escaped the entire world and now I'm stuck in a video game!"

I know we're living in the first setting, but what if there were robots and magical girls???

Maybe I've just had my head in the Universal Century too long (it's been about four years!) and there are actually plenty of stories like this atm but I've missed them while staring at Gundam (lol)

If you have any good recommendations for near-future adventure stories, I'd love to hear them!

Dai-Guard takes place in 2030. It's Pacific Rim before Pacific Rim was even an idea, with the titular Robot owned by an Insurance Company. Half the drama (and humor) comes from the fact that the robot is VERY expensive and Collateral is even moreso.

I looked it up and someone was calling it "mech action meets The Office," which sounds pretty fun!

It looks like it's not streaming anywhere anymore, but used copies of the DVDs are about standard series price, so next time I'm in a place to splurge, perhaps...! ✨
