I think the Sheffield uni data uses REPD... Although this morning in the OTF bod said Sheffield Solar included behind the meter data. I was a bit surprised by that. @stockfttp.bsky.social , what do you think? Does BtM need to be registered with DNOs? - ThreadSky

They model (a.k.a guess) behind the meter stuff as far I'm aware, and anyway, just about all of it will have a grid connection and a G99/98 attached so the DNOs do have the data, they are just rubbish at data.

Looks like they have their own capacity estimate using a range of sources, which is much higher than DESNZ but a little below Solar Media. And as Tom says, they model all the UK's solar generation based on a geographically representative sample of sites with real data.

ET6.1: "Solar PV includes installations confirmed on the FiTs scheme, plus sub 50 kW installations commissioned and registered on the [MCS]. The PV figures also include installations accredited on the RO, and any operational installations as recorded in the Renewable Energy Planning Database (REPD)"

ET 6.1 says 17.8 GW installed while Sheffield Solar says 19.5 GW; the difference seems to be down to SS additionally using Solar Media's database for utility scale stuff

Sheffield Solar actually highlights the difference between DESNZ estimates (in Energy Table 6.1) and theirs; they also appear to provide their installation list but it's a bit late for playing with gzipped csv files

I know a few folk who are registered with the DNO for 3.6kW export. They have 5kW of panels, and divert the difference into their own hot water tank or battery.

DNO doesn't need to know about this as there's a current limiter at the export point to stay legal.
