Lots of people say nail polish but that didn't work for me for a long time. I'd chew right thru it. They do make clear, bitter tasting polish that helped me for a while. What worked best was fidget toys and hard candies. Something to keep both parts occupied.
I still chew them, the habit isn't totally broken. But usually regular nail polish helps now. I paint them if I'm having a really bad chewing moment, the fresh paint means I won't bite it immediately. Once it's dry I chip at it instead of biting. I noticed my triggers for it are stress and ocd, too
Sorry for the spam but I bit my nails til they bled my entire life so i get the struggle. I still bite when I'm spacing out sometimes, and my ocd wants to chew them to "smooth" it if there's a rough spot, and then i cant stop. I try to remember to carry clippers with me for that now.
What worked for me was nail polish. After biting into my nail and tasting paint enough times, I finally slowed down a lot
I've never managed to stop entirely (been a nervous biter since the age of 3), but for the first time in 30 years, my nails come out just beyond my fingertips
But seriously, I don’t bite my nails anymore because last time I did, I got a mouth full of transmission fluid and gear oil (I was replacing a driveshaft). I suppose the trauma was enough to stop the habit lol. Now I just fidget with a ratchet instead. And wear gloves.
man if you ever figure it out lmk x.x I've unfortunately been biting my nails since I was a baby and it's been so difficult to break regardless how many times I've tried

I want them for this exact reason.
