It’s always been a thing, but usually not in large outbreaks like this. A lot of this is fueled by two things: antibiotic resistance tuberculosis bacteria, and our lack of available, immediate, and affordable healthcare. You won’t get that nasty cough checked out if you just can’t afford it.
Years ago, I was exposed to live TB at work. it wasn't a priority because it happened during SARs in 2003, and the Toronto Board of Health was swamped.
