okay what's the scam this time
my usual questions for new ATproto apps are:
- can you meaningfully build a new platform? or are you still relying on the Bluesky DID registry, relay, and app view?
- y'all remember what happened to Cohost? $30/user is even less than they charged for Cohost Plus

Weβre excited to announce NorthSky Social Cooperative where we are building a new ATproto platform for the benefit of marginalized communities that prioritizes the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
After increasing hostility toward these communities we are taking action to provide a platform built by and for us

we're building a new platform piece by piece, starting with the PDS. the key difference here is that we're improving user data backup and restore and hosting it in Canada.
we will be expanding other infra in the future in order to improve moderation capabilities
the $30 membership fee helps us pay for coop administration costs as we add more members (volunteers)
having seen a _lot_ of social media platforms implode, occasionally from the inside (Cohost, more Fedi servers than i feel like counting), the part that made me raise an eyebrow was how _low_ the co-op membership fee is
are people working full-time on this?
also at our current state, infrastructure costs are very low, so a little bit can go a long way for a PDS
