If you’re wondering where the social media discourse comes from every day: it’s from me. I was hired to do it by a mysterious employer, and their guidelines are super confusing. Jibberish, really. Anyway I’m really terrible at the job, I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing, sorry. But it pays a LOT.

Happy National Poetry Month, Day 9. Today I highlight a wonderful collection of tree poetry. I first encountered this book at an event at the Arnold Arboretum, in Jamaica Plain, MA. We read aloud a few of the poems, and all were fabulous. If you love trees and poetry, this book is perfect!

Was wandering around a bookstore and opened the Best American Poetry of 2024 to this poem "Each Other Moment" this evening, which is IT for today...thank you Jessica Greenbaum for this poem.

A few good lines, from an @nybooks.com email this morning. I now like Feb in NY better, because it produced this.

'...and came upon a small box marked Green Permanent. And when you opened it you saw small tubes of paint, now just mud without his attention, you said, holding both the power of what we do, and the sadness that it has to end.' Jessica Greenbaum - Green Permanent

“For help he said I should read the new translation of a Gogol story called / ‘The Two Yvonne’s’ —love this poem by Jessica Greenbaum

As historians know but I just want to articulate: Chinese people fighting for their rights IN COURT laid the groundwork for immigrant rights fights in federal courts today. Chinese immigrants brought suits, despite the odds. They didn’t always win. But Wong Kim Ark did. And it’s a big one.

Fighting antisemitism by increasing it, because this was never about antisemitism

Republicans are saying that these cuts will be reinvested into Medicaid for people who "deserve" it. If that were true, the budget would stay the same. But that's not what's happening. Why? Because down the hall, they are trying to finance tax breaks for billionaires.

BBC: "Make it make sense." Me: "I can't." [awkward pause] [pause lengthens] Me: "That's the answer."

Crockett: Instead of the President cosplaying as the next pope, he may want to cosplay as an actual President of these United States. That means he may have to do a little bit of research and understand that he swore a an oath to defend and protect the constitution.

One of our great interviewers with one of most exceptional writers. Astounding. Explore this gift article from The New York Times. You can read it for free without a subscription. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/03/m...

As part of our campaign against antisemitism, we send people to a concentration camp run by a dictator who blames criticism on the global Jewish conspiracy.

Letitia James is such a great speaker and a great listen, every bit as authoritatively ferocious as Pritzker if you ask me. The NY Attorney General is one of the great offices of the land, and oh how she fills it.

🤣🤣🤣

Dig.

Proud of Michael Roth, President of (my alma mater) Wesleyan University for his fearless, crystalline moral voice in defense of our most fundamental democratic values when they are under relentless attack by an administration that desecrates them.

No more outsourcing from abroad—the US will now cultivate its own tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to breathe free domestically.

Whoever did this—buy them a drink. ☠️🤣

Passover!

Happy Passover!

Coolest Subaru I have ever seen

When a dude tells you about the hidden matzoh on Passover that’s called afikomansplaining.

When non-Jews try to support Jewish folks on Passover but completely miss the mark. They tried. 🤣 Happy Passover to all who celebrate. I normally go to my friend’s Seder but I’m trying to finish my work before Monday because of Tax Day.

We are in a tragic time of expulsions.

Little note that no Jewish person I know thinks Trump’s anti-anti-semitism stance has anything to do with Jewish people. Tonight’s Seder will be difficult, but the holiday is still about optimism and larger issues of welcoming the stranger “as we were once strangers.” Happy Passover 🫓

if you are looking for a politics that fights for the conditions in which families can flourish you are looking for feminism. if you have ended up in “pro-natalism” you have taken several wrong turns and are surrounded by racists and eugenicists. turn back immediately and reflect on what happened

*F*U*N*!!!!

We wouldn’t be here if SCOTUS had allowed the January 6th trial to go forward as scheduled.

Just remembering how Joe Biden forgiving some student loans was taking the power of the presidency too far.

Congratulations to Judge Susan Crawford on her victory, and to the people of Wisconsin for electing a judge who believes in the rule of law and protecting our freedoms.

I saw my first Osprey of 2025 today - watching it swoop out of the sky and snatch a fish from the Potomac reminded me of Marjorie Taylor Greene's feet.
