“Huerta is the something more of these immigration raids — not because he’s a union boss, but because he’s a union organizer with ties to both people in power and people in fear. The coming months will show what happens when those two groups decide, together, that backing down is not an option.”

I'm being completely serious when I say that if someone talks about people being "bilingual" in synthetic text extruders, you should laugh in their face

I see posts saying protesters aren't brutalized under Dems. I guess right-wingers aren't the only ones fantasizing about a mythical past. I was brutalized at protests under Obama. Folks were brutalized at protests under Biden. We can condemn the escalations of the present w out fetishizing the past.

"These meetings are distracting me from the work." The meetings are the work. Sorry. The fact that your org doesn't value meetings and doesn't put any effort into making them more effective is a symptom of a broader pattern of ignoring feminized "glue work" in favor of Big Masculine Outputs.

VERY interesting to be sent a thread of authors who have been very kind to me at conventions or asked for blurbs making fun of the blunt autistic voice of my writing. fortunately i am proud of my way. i am aware the thing that RESONATES with my readers (especially ones who are also autistic)

All of the talk about "peaceful protest" makes me think of all the times I have been part of a protest where the police cracked someone over the head and then charged that person with assault. They will call you violent. You can't control that or other people.

The recent "anti-anti-AI" blog posts remind me of all the posts where people share synthetic images and videos: someone posts a sloppy, superficial artifact and their buddies fawn over them for it without really engaging with the substance (because there isn't any substance)

ICE (law enforcement in general) operating unchecked under Obama and Biden is part of how we got to now. Sorry if this upsets you.

If you are arrested during a protest or action against ICE or CPD in Chicago, I can represent you pro bono. Email me at [email protected]. (This is an offer for criminal defense; I unfortunately don't do immigration law.)

I know that many don't want to hear this but we've been moving towards this current state of affairs over the past 65 years. And it's really been a bipartisan project. The expansion of the carceral state is the fuel for fascism. Folks have been trying to make this case for a long time.

In addition to what Kelly correctly points out, adding "peaceful" in front of shit isn't doing the work you think under fascism and please get it through your heads that you are living under fascism. Adjust accordingly.

I am walking around my city with a passport. We’ve been watching for weeks as ICE inundates this place. My Pop was frozen as ICE came down their block parading their unchecked power. Anyone judging these protests should think about what it’s like to live in the escalation of all this.

The metaphor police are working too hard

I don't think that the MSM will be useful in covering what's going on. We're going to have to rely on independent journalists and foreign correspondents.

MSG is safe and it’s delicious

learn to code! learn to prompt! learn to buy into meritocracy bullshit instead of demanding dignity and a good life regardless of educational background and how wealthy you can make other people!

"It's really hard to fathom that the guy making my pizza for 25 years is a gangster and a terrorist, and the person who shows up in an unmarked car wearing a mask and body armor comes to take him away is somehow the good guy” www.wnep.com/article/news...

Other side of this, we really gotta start teaching kids about/in a production model of knowledge rather than a discovery one. *Way* too many people still seem to think that knowledge & research just like… happen, w/o the entangled embedded infrastructural systems of universities, libraries, labs, &c

Well this couldn’t have come at a better time www.bbc.com/news/article...

Oh shit I think I finally understand sigma and pi types in dependent types

the speed at which these guys have broken everything has given a lot of folks who should know better the impression that they are an unstoppable force and the only option is to negotiate the terms of surrender just because the clown car goes very fast does not mean it isn’t full of clowns

Literally every month for the past 3 months, CVS Caremark has invented another excuse why I need to call them and deal with their janky hotline if I want to continue filling my prescriptions at my local pharmacy. I miss twitter because it was a great way to shame companies for this bullshit.

the difference between this and all the “brave anti-woke academic speaking out despite the risks” is that (a) she’s actually risking something, and (b) she’s actually saying something that’s correct

I opened a 2 page PDF in Adobe and across the top flashed the message "this looks like a long document, would you like an AI summary?" and seriously, is this where we are now, that the default assumption is that folks can't process 2 pages?

As a person who is generally inclined to give a shit about things, I feel like I'm constantly mentally unprepared for the extent to which the people in charge of things completely and utterly fail to give a shit about them

Reading yet another post asserting all you need is a human doing careful continuous supervision of the automation and it’s gonna be perfectly fine, as I grind my own teeth into dust while 40+ years of research and industry reports flash through my mind like war footage in a ptsd movie scene

One of the many reasons I'm grateful of the work of Drs. Hanna, Bender, Gebru et al. is that I no longer feel compelled to reshape critiques of "AI" into whatever BS terms that boosters deem legit. Wasted years of my life on that. It's liberating to be part of a community that doesn't put up with it

How long before people use synthetic audio output as an excuse to shit on vocal fry. Can't wait /s

"Think of AI as a junior developer" Oh, interesting. That'd imply helping junior devs learn and building understandable systems would be a massive force multiplier. Yet you seem entirely opposed to doing so? Nothing says leadership like treating peers worse than your IDE's autocomplete, I suppose.
