Being skeptical of anything that supports what I want to believe is an exhausting way to go through life. But it's also why I managed to escape neoconservative pipeline I was born into. I said "prove me wrong" and then actually changed when I was proven wrong. A lot.

Me: "I need to get serious about actually understanding the rules of photographic composition and how to take proper photographs." Also me: "If I push the button the ancient brick of a camera will make a satisfying 'ker-chunk' noise and I will get to fiddle with knobs to make the film go forward."

I know photographers who use subtlety and they are all cowards.

I have always thoroughly loved the Muppets, but I hate that I live in a world where a cloth puppet of a frog gave a more heartfelt, useful, inspiring and overall coherent commencement address than the president of the US.

"When we break down, it all breaks down." - Terry Pratchett, 'Night Watch' Happy 25th of May, everyone.

I know it's technically not the "right" film for event photography but gods damn I love Velvia. Bronica EC-TL / Fuji Velvia 100 #FilmPhotography #BelieveInFilm

The long term solution is of course proper healthcare that studies and covers trans care - and we *will* get there - but right now, in this moment, this is good information to have.

Oh, hey, new scans came back!

Been thinking about this photo a lot lately.

In addition to the rank bigotry of denying healthcare to trans people on Medicare, the House budget bill would also effectively kill all tax credits for clean electricity generation within 60 days of its passage. These assholes would rather burn the world down than help anyone.

The realization that the question is "when" am I going to crash out and not "if" is disorienting in its own right.

My car also doesn't have an entire team of dedicated technicians giving it a thorough check after every use to make sure none of the systems are failing. Like, I'm a pretty decent home mechanic but even I don't come close to aviation maintenance schedules.

Light meter in the Bronica EC-TL works beautifully. I'm going to end up spending so much money on film this summer...

Finally brought my Flickr account up to current.

OK, yes, this is completely cursed. BUT, and hear me out, basementing Yudkowsky would probably have prevented a *lot* of our current problems.

My great grandfather who fought for the US in WWII was a birthright citizen child of my illegal immigrant great grandfather who came over as an indentured servant and then illegally ran away from his servitude to escape the poor treatment.

What are they going to do? Make them take the COGIATI? lol

Democrats just flipped the Omaha mayor's office with ads like this. The right-wing obsession with genitals is starting to backfire.

Everyone seems very worried about "Gosh, well what do we tell the transphobic people to get them to vote for Democrats?" Tell them to get the fuck over it. Tell them, straight to their faces, "I feel embarrassed for you that this is a thing you are whining about."

You see the $400 million Qatar jet as corruption, I see it as something we can melt into statues for both prominent and lesser known organizers and key figures.

Little known fact that Grover Cleveland used to ride around the world in the Statue of Liberty and have sensitive national security discussions inside it, before taking possession of it himself after he left office.

new from me: The House Republicans Budget Bill Guts Basic Needs Programs for the Most Vulnerable Americans to Give Tax Breaks to the Rich you have to read it because i've been working 15-hour days :')

I don't really get much snow here in the Puget Sound, but I do live close enough to a river to get cottonwood season and honestly that's kind of the same aesthetic but with 70-degree days and nothing to shovel so I guess it evens out.

do you ever think about geologists walter & luiz alvarez noticing that the entire world had a layer of extraterrestrial metals from ~65 million years ago and below that line there were diverse giant reptiles and above the line there was NOTHING and get full-body goosebumps, or are you normal?

Professionally this isn't an issue because there's enough structure to work that I can plan things out. The critical lack shows up when I start to think about creative projects and I just freeze since "being artistic" was never something I was told to do so I never internalized any capability there.

The biggest problem with having spent most of my life doing what I was told is that I never really developed an ability to just do something unprompted - my ability to figure out my own projects is completely stunted and inadequately developed.

"Don't you want to fight these bastards for real?"

@victoriascott.bsky.social 's writing is always worth reading but this is especially so.

It's just a phone photo, but I like it.

There is no more perfect illustration of who I am as a person than this morning when a coworker and I posted the following reactions to a meeting in slack at the exact same time: Co-worker: "You're always such a calming influence!" Me: "AHHHHHHHH!"
