A rustic retreat from the rain and the blackflies. #Adirondacks

Blue Mountain Lake…or Mirror Lake? #Adirondacks ⛰️

Spectacular day on Blue Mountain Lake. #Adirondacks.

Enjoyed some great free music in Saratoga Springs yesterday. Uprooted opened for the Gin Blossoms and I liked them better. The whole of Broadway was closed down and the town had a fantastic pedestrian only vibe most of the day.

Both climate change and this part of Ghana's heritage are deeply rooted in a colonial past. Making it an excellent case for discussion of decolonizing heritage practice #ClimateHeritage

Yet another drought spring...☀️🔥 🛩️ For aerial archaeology these used to come along every 5-8 years. Now they're every other year. A useful article from the #MetOffice #ClimateHeritage #ClimateChange www.metoffice.gov.uk/about-us/new...

Article argues for more monitoring to supplement tide gauges & provide info on rainfall run-off, groundwater contributions etc. “If you don’t know where it’s flooding & why it’s flooding, you might create expensive designs for infrastructure that are counterproductive”. 🌎 #climate #sealevelrise

My absolute favourite Pictish bird, at the National Museum of Scotland. The goose (and the salmonid fish) from about 700AD are on a symbol stone used as an upright in a burial cist found by a farmer ploughing at Easterton of Roseville, Moray in 1894. #archaeobirds 🏺

🏺 Study reveals way humans used the products obtained from large cetaceans between ca. 20–14 ka cal BP. It involved worked and unworked objects made of whale bone found at #UpperPaleolithic sites (Magdalenian) around the Bay of Biscay, #Spain, the oldest known evidence for whale-bone working.

For anyone interested in sea-level rise and what it means for property owners and public access, I strongly recommend this riveting (and richly illustrated) read by PhD student Andrew Malmuth: placesjournal.org/article/prop...

An observation about Blue Sky + Mastodon: I have roughly equal followers/followed on both, but posts spread much less here. People like + move on, but that doesn't help fill your feed + makes it feel quieter. If you like something, repost it so we can all see it.

So sorry to hear this. A wonderful photographer. I remember seeing his photos of the Serra Pelada gold rush miners, in London in about 1986 and they really blew me away. I wanted to buy a print, but I couldn't afford to on my Friends of the Earth wages LOL. 🌎

Happy birthday, Carl Linnaeus! 🌿🌱🌼 We're celebrating by revisiting our favourite letter to him, translated here by @nataliesmith.bsky.social.
