NYC Comptroller Brad Lander: "I don't think the line for the [Democratic] party right now is between progressives and moderates; I think it's between fighters and folders."

I didn’t have “arguing if the Constitution is constitutional” on my 2025 bingo card. Did you?

ICE is now changing tactics and arresting people who have been granted asylum hearings.   This is both a violation of US & international law that demands immediate attention from all New York elected officials & underscores the urgent need for legal service providers to be at all of these cases.

Zohran Mamdani says, "For too long, politicians have pretended that we're spectators to that crisis of affordability. We're actually actors, and we have the choice to exacerbate it, like mayor Adams has done, or to respond to it and resolve it, like I'm planning to do."

the way calling for the deportation of any visible non-white person is rapidly becoming normalized is a huge cause for concern.

Breaking: After a classified briefing with Cabinet officials, Sen. Chris Murphy says: "I walk away from that briefing still under the belief that we have not obliterated the programs."   "The president was deliberately misleading the public when he said the program was obliterated."

When you lie about your credentials, your drinking, and your leaking of classified war plans, why would anyone trust you about the air strikes?

Tesla is basically a memecoin at this point. Great news, everyone "Sales dropped ONLY 28% in May despite the overall EV market growing 27%". I can't think of any other company where people would write articles this delusional.

This should be an all-caps headline. No president has ever — or would ever — grant an enemy permission to strike a U.S. military base. Yet that appears to be what Trump says he did.

If I had to sum up what I’ve learned from analyzing mountains of election data—and what Mamdani’s campaign exemplified perfectly—it’s this: Stop moderating. Start energizing.

Beloit, WI revitalized its waterfront and chose this way to celebrate it: by bringing to life Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte."

The amount of ways in which this president is just shattering the foundational norms of governance is just breathtaking.

The Bove allegations should be treated as something akin to Watergate, or Iran Contra. The administration was attempting to do something they *knew* was illegal (anticipating the courts saying as much), and then trying to COVER IT UP. Only here instead of it being run out of the WH or NSC, it’s DOJ

In a June Democratic mayoral primary, Zohran Mamdani received more votes than 22 sitting US Senators received in their most recent general elections.

Populist economics is a very effective way to fight fascism.

this is your friendly reminder that you simply cannot predict what LLMs will hallucinate. For example, Anthropic invented MCP, Model Context Protocol. Claude – the model Anthropic develops – does not yet know what it is.

A fun thing about American politics is that more people voted in New York City in a June primary than live in five states that get two senators.

Pupdate: Looking good; feelin’ good

In the midst of a brutal heat wave, NYC chooses between Andrew Cuomo, who lied about causing vulnerable seniors to die in nursing homes, and Zohran Mamdani, who’s dedicated to to making NYC affordable and green for everyone. This is what 21st century climate elections actually look like.

Another thing I can’t get over about the Democratic establishment’s backing of Andrew Cuomo in the New York mayoral race is how much hostility they’ve shown to Zohran Mamdani, an extremely gifted young campaigner whose energy and charisma the party sorely needs. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

How wild is it that women & femmes have been screaming online about rape and death threats for 15+ years and men still think we are talking about “arguments”

the dem establishment attempting to purge every pro palestine politician from the party while the actual voter base is now majority pro-palestine is going to wreck party unity and cohesion if we let them keep doing this.

[Stockpiling tea and buns]

the reaction to Mamdani's campaign is clear proof that centrism is a reactionary ideology, and has nothing to do with a pragmatic desire to win.

one good thing about electing a left wing mayor in nyc is that the office will probably be only minorly relevant nationally - allowing the mayor to actually govern. if cuomo wins, he will be planning his presidential run during his entire unpopular mayorality

There should be an earnest call to pack the courts by Dem leadership. It should be a thought out campaign to explain to the American people why it’s necessary.

one way to make sense of the position of the republicans on the supreme court is that they do not believe there is such a thing as a legitimate objection to the actions of a republican president, no matter how deranged, depraved, or anti-constitutional www.stevevladeck.com/p/161-the-co...

I didn’t have the Supreme Court destroying the authority of federal district courts on my bingo card. But in retrospect that’s perhaps where all this shadow docket decision-making was going all along. Really scary stuff.

the question people like this never answer is “why?” why would jews be unsafe with a muslim mayor? why would a palestinian state endanger jews? why should jews be afraid of anti-genocide protesters? their answer is “muslims are violent people” but they know that’s too bigoted to say, even for them

More to come later today but here is a first look at what just a few hours of observing with the world’s largest camera can do. 🔭 edition.cnn.com/2025/06/23/s...

which means it's a finance problem, not in the sense of "it takes money" but in the sense of "we need to exchange present and future to mutual advantage"

In China, EV factories have become an unlikely big-ticket tourist attraction, with people signing up by the thousands to visit. from @zeyiyang.bsky.social www.wired.com/story/china-...

Again and again, the Free Press spent years complaining about illiberalism and when confronted with the first truly authoritarian government of our lifetimes went from being soft apologists to full throated endorsers

not to get all partisan or anything but i think going to war with Iran for literally no reason beyond puffing up Trump's ego would be bad

Trump's rationale for going to war with Iran
