When you planned your whole morning around a phone call you were expecting, but they never called….

“Stimming had a SIGNIFICANT POSITIVE impact on autistic adults’ self-rated self-efficacy” “Results CONTRADICT the negative view often expressed suggesting that stimming should be eradicated” “Stimming has a POSITIVE effect and SUPPORTS autistic individuals’ ability to COPE with difficulties” 🫠

It's been said again and again but this negative knee jerk reaction to seeing people masked is quite clearly a trauma response. People are fucking traumatized by COVID and they haven't dealt with it

Instead of vague posting about the bad books, I want to hear what GOOD fantasy series you read and stuck to growing up? What kid and young adult fantasy lit have you read recently that isn't created by a dumpster fire funding regressive laws? Boost it!

Describe the plot of your comic with one panel.

It's getting easier and easier as i learn. But being a late diagnosed neurodivergent will probably mean needing to do some high level mental aikido moves on my anxious predictive brain at least once a day until I die.

← Taking some time to reflect on the kind of difference you would like to make in the world, and have the capacity to bring into being, is a great place to start if you want to have more impact. Whether you are trying to survive in an ER or an open office plan or working from home…. → 3/4

← We have strengths that help us show up in the NOW. I see people with ADHD doing great work. But a lot of jobs don’t let us lean into these strengths as much, and even when they do, being in that hectic place will be a lot easier if you know what your priorities & your strengths are. 2/4 →

People with unmanaged ADHD can be stuck in being very reactive. We try to be the superhero that makes everything alright for everyone in the NOW, no matter what life is throwing at us. → 1/4

RFK is currently having a worse impact on my life than autism ever has. This is deplorable eugenics.

Hi, I’m autistic and I’m the mayor of my city.

Incredibly mad about this. I'm not sure how the US got here. So many people from the States I work with a bright and caring. Watching the latest @contrapoints.bsky.social on why conspiracy theories are seductive to some, gave me some understanding, but Damn, are there so many susceptible people?

I've been more outspoken about seriously contemplating selfdiagnosing with autism and it's frigging scary what comes up. Not so much internalised ableism anymore. But a deep feel of being an imposter in the autism community. AuDHD is such a weird mix...

I love the framing of ADHD as “having an interest-based nervous system”. Not just because it sounds nicer than all the ways ADHD is described in the DSM. - 1/4

Putting my curiosity in play, and finding other ways to connect tasks to things into play and finding other ways to connect tasks to things I find intrinsically motivating, because they interest me, has made a big difference for me. → 3/4

But more importantly, once I really understood what it meant to have an interest based nervous system, it helped me find strategies to work with my brain that were way more effective for me than anything I had been taught up until that did not feel motivating to me. .→ 2/4

Hope that our efforts to learn these things are likely to yield positive results in the future. This is why I love this Margaret Meade quote. For me, it offers a quick way to bring that hope back into my mind so I can keep pouring myself into this mission. 3/4

We need to learn how to communicate effectively across neurotypes. We need to address the double empathy problem and other challenges that arise when we try to do this. Learning anything new requires motivation, and not only this, also HOPE. 2/4

We have become overly focussed on individual responsibility & we are facing a series of issues that will require us to band together and collaborate in unprecedented ways to solve them. When you are neurodivergent, this type of collaborations comes with an added barrier. 1/4

Thus is your friendly reminder that one VERY cool feature on Bluesky is that you can make your default settings force you to be a better human and add alt text whenever you post an image. Go to Settings, Accessibility, then toggle on "Require alt text before posting." Easy peasy.

What does this question have to offer for you if you apply it to something you’ve been a little stuck on? Let me know in the comments…. 3/4

Task initiation can be barred by many things if you have ADHD. But no matter what the root cause, it is almost always helpful to think about how we can make the first step of a bigger project smaller & easier, or start building the habit in it’s smallest form before we expand → 1/4

<-Or to think about the supports we can put in place to help of follow through on our intentions. In short, to ask this question “How can I keep it easy?” 2/4 https://bit.ly/consultationBD

Bella Ramsey explains a (probably autistic person) spotted signs of autism correctly which led to formal diagnosis and Bella gaining better self-understanding and improved quality of life. Helen Coffey questions why neurodivergent people help each other and wants them to stop. Fuck off, Helen.

Notice I speak about self-kindness as a practice. It does not need to be something you are great at to start taking action. You just have to be willing to try doing more of it. 5/6
