Highlighting Women in Quantum History - new book. Some names to add to your lectures on quantum physics. 🧪 ⚛️ 🎢👩‍🔬

Interestingly I’ve worked in a school with a headteacher who displayed at least a good half dozen of these.

American friends, here’s Umberto Eco’s famous checklist for signs of fascism. It makes for disturbing reading regarding your current situation.

I see that @theguardian.com are publishing their 50 books to take on holiday tomorrow Saturday. I await it with interest. I wonder if these will be books we would like people to think we took on holiday or the page turner poolside thrillers we actually do....🤣

I’m not sure what this mural in JFK is supposed to be, but that looks remarkably like a human cheek cell stained with methylene blue (top right)

Perfect day of New York tourism.

I saved buying some vinyl I wanted until our American holiday to give myself an excuse to visit record shops. Now I have an LP but no way to play it. I am back as a teenager pouring over the sleeve notes imagining how it will sound on the bus journey home (except it’s a 7 hour flight)

Altogether now……

When it’s your last day, you’ve got to take a punt.

Rain!!! 1st I’ve seen since March

Asked for my name for a coffee today, as they do. It seems Alastair is very unusual here in California 😂😂

I really enjoyed this LOTR thread

Well the Holy of travel retail holies (Terminal 3 Heathrow) is uninspiring. I don’t think I am target demographic. The only things I paused at was a Lego Architecture model of the London skyline and an enquiry to see if by chance they had a Paul Smith cycling jersey in my size (they didn’t)

The only thing that was certain today, no matter what happened was that Crystal Palace would end up in 12th.

@drwilkinsonsci.bsky.social VAR or not they are going to be discussing the decision not to allow the Villa goal at Old Trafford this afternoon for years.......

I think Lucy Charles-Barclay deserves more fame than she seems to receive. Last weekend she won the Women's Lanzarote Ironman Triathlon (2.5mile swim, 120mile on a bike then run a marathon,) largely across the parched, windy volcanic uplands, by 20 minutes!!!! www.220triathlon.com/news/lucy-ch...

Anyone who knows his work, this set from Sam Fender on #radio1bigweekend the sound seems flat, is this normal for him or just the broadcast?

I’ve decided I’m an old fart. I’m at a friends wedding with 60+ people most of whom have not seen each other for months and want to catch up and the “DJ” is playing music at nigh on 100dB (I have an app) #bemused with #earache
