I'm one of a big bunch of journalists who got laid off from Business Insider today. This sucks! Which is to say, I wish the profession I've spent my life chasing wasn't in such chaos. BI does great work, and I hope you'll support the folks still making that happen.

Elon is always lying. Therefore, we must focus on what Elon feels the need to lie about. This "I'm so backing off" lie shows: a) the #TeslaTakedown worked b) the #TeslaTakedown must ramp up He's going to be pulling the same shit & the media will be inclined to push his lie that he's backed off.

This should absolutely be a scandal which people lose their jobs over. You'd have to assume that anyone in power actually cares though to think that would happen, which obviously would be a bold assumption in present circumstances.

I take the subway by myself multiple times literally every day and the most memorable things that have happened recently are that a very cute dog in a purple sweater was on my train car a few days ago and today a guy with a cane got on and literally four people immediately sprang up so he could sit

Three women and two doctors are suing Kansas over a law that nullifies a person’s decisions about end-of-life care if they are pregnant, arguing that it violates the right to personal autonomy and equal protection under the state constitution.

we gotta celebrate the wins and this is one helluva win!!!!

RFK & Dr. Oz want to relocate ostriches w/bird flu to Florida. They say it's an opportunity to study infected birds in a natural environment. Biosecurity, anyone? I remember when that was their stated reason for closing the top BSL4 lab studying dangerous pathogens. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/w...

Conservatism, where being scared of everything and whining about it on TV are feats of strength.

I think this points up some of the failures of coverage of Trump's lawlessness: You could've read dozens of articles on Trump's tariff policy with no inkling of how unprecedented & legally dubious was the legal authority he claimed to impose them. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/b...

I think it is mostly DOGE but it is unclear. The lists come from "above" NIH, but that could be DOGE, HHS, or OMB.

Nice to see Trump bringing people together like this.

It is wild seeing college students be like, "Damn, how did they write papers without AI?" What?! It was 4 years ago. Like you have thoughts in your brain and then you write them down and then you pad it out with some bullshit . Or pull the quotes and write around it.

18-year-old Franky Fred was last seen by friends near Vancouver Lake last Friday

Yes! I need to watch this documentary, but that’s essentially what I argued in my book. The fact that smallpox became preventable meant that government (ie. we the people) had a responsibility to protect one another from it.

"DOGE is all of us" *Lawsuits for DOGE crimes* "DOGE is none of us"

Hiring season is over for this year, but UNC will be completely unable to hire tenured scholars from other universities (with the possible exception of Texas and Florida) until they resolve this.

Just doing some work travel reimbursement paperwork... Once again, I wouldn't mind if my professional colleagues saw my google search history, but I hope they never see my calculator history. I have a Ph.D. and can do simple addition I swear

💯 Yes no government or law official should be roaming around with a mask like a street thug or right wing militia group from whom the current ICE has drawn many volunteers it seems.

Once again, it's not "doxxing" to report the name of a government employee.

UNC’s BOT didn’t approve any tenure cases outside of health & sciences. options for new faculty? join w/o tenure or delay joining a year. For current faculty? remain in current position, so no tenure. BOT has not said a single thing to explain their nonaction www.theassemblync.com/education/hi...

Would love someone to do a reported piece on what it means to have a governing class stuffed with guys on Barry-Bonds-in-2001 levels of gear.

I'm still off socials for a few more days but I came #onhere cuz my sister just shared this article w/ me. I can't stress enough that it is BULLSHIT & pressure must stay on Musk's NECK. Gratitude to all of us who picketed as part of #TeslaTakeDown. Work continues. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/28/u...

Sounds like an unvarnished digitally enhanced fascist police state to me.

Asset tests should not be reinstated. They are a predictably ineffective and cruel administrative burden that make it impossible for the very poor to have basic dignity. From @pamherd.bsky.social and I in the @aeajournals.bsky.social‬ Journal of Economic Perspectives www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=...

Every sentence here contains at least one obviously false claim

Humor and ridicule are great tools of resistance but I don’t get the TACO thing. It goes the wrong direction. Do we really want to egg him into following through on his tariff threats?

First NO ONE was the administrator of DOGE, now EVERYONE is the administrator of DOGE #WITAOD

These are outrageous lies designed to keep American taxpayers from being able to access safe and effective vaccines. It weakens our ability to respond. In the long run, more people will die in a H5N1 pandemic.

"As Musk slinks away, spending went up, not down, during his tenure, and DOGE made the government less efficient, not more..." "A legacy of shattered institutions, weakened public services, and fired civil servants who did nothing but serve their country well..." www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

There’s not enough bird flu in the US, so RFK Jr is hoping to import more

President Trump issued a flurry of clemency actions on Wednesday, wiping the convictions or cutting sentences for more than two dozen people, including those who have expressed political support or echoed the president in claiming they had been unfairly targeted.

so much going on here but i like his little complaints about how bare bones federal workplace accommodations are

The HHS is now telling medical centers to adhere to their latest sham report on transgender healthcare which literally says is not a treatment guideline. They’re sending this letter to hospitals in blue states and threatening them unless they stop trans care. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/05/...

also pretty deadly in cats, big and small.

"how dare these so-called judges attempt to contain or 'check' another branch of government, as though the intent of the constitution was to somehow level or 'balance' federal power!" bsky.app/profile/atru...

The USA is barely recognizable after 4 months; if you think you can sit on the sidelines and it will be handed back to you in four years you are out of your mind.

Because Kyle's post is both a tiny screenshot and doesn't use alt text, here's the whole thing nice and big and with alt text.

these knobs are upset that they have to at least pretend to be doing work, which isn't as much fun as being a hateful trolling asshole all day on the internet most of these guys won't last a year

They attacked, traumatized and fired the competent public servants, and now want your sympathy for being out of their depth.
