Meanwhile, in Scotland, Constrained by Westminster's financial controls, We have the Scottish Child Payment, described as 'a game changer' by anti-poverty charities, Scotland's Government will cancel Labour's two-child cap next year. Imagine how much more we could do with #ScottishIndependence

The Crook, The Thief, Their Grift, and the Murderer. 2025. Oil on canvas.

Great title! The essay compares Trump's business entanglements with Jimmy Carter's transparent disentangling. Both came to office as DC outsiders; what a difference a few decades makes.

‘From Isles of Wonder to Island of Strangers: a short history of how Britain destroyed its soft power in less than a decade and a half’.

Feels like Starmer has fallen in with the bad boys and, desperate to impress, doesn’t know where to draw the line.

Hard to say how disappointing this morning‘s speech really was. Morally AND intellectually. Agree with every line here by @iandunt.bsky.social 👇

1/ The US government has ordered the Swedish city of Stockholm to end its diversity, inclusivity and equality (DEI) programmes within 10 days. The city authorities say the demand is "bizarre" and they won't be complying. ⬇️

The Trump administration’s tariff policies are likely to lower Ford Motor's 2025 profit, before interest and taxes, by about $1.5 billion, the company said on Monday.

Between Islay and Gigha.

Just filled in the questionnaire - only takes a few minutes The questionnaire is asking because he thinks Scottish politics lacks the imagination and drive needed for the challenges we face. We can do better - and he believes the answers lie in the views of the people who live here. FOR SCOTLAND

When Andrea Jenkyns said in her victory speech that Reform UK would "reset Britain to its glorious past" it sounded like a threat. Back to the 1930s with Reform UK. Unapologetic sexism, racism & colonialism, no Scottish or Welsh Parliaments, rampant sectarianism in the north of Ireland.

The Aberdeen concrete controversy is being mis-reported to suggest Scot Gov / you the taxpayer, should pay for problems that mortgage advisors should have picked up: talkingupscotlandtwo.com/2025/02/05/8...

🤨

You’re telling me that right wing voters that Labour was trying to appeal to voted for a right wing party anyway and left wing voters decided not to vote for Labour because they’re too right wing now? Who could have possibly predicted this.

This sounds great, but we need a proper big YEStival at some point before the 2026 election! #ScottishIndependence 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Thrilled to say I am reading at Topping & Company Booksellers of Edinburgh with Cheng Tim Tim, Daryl Lim Wei Jie and Theresa Munoz in July! Save the date. :) Afterbody (Blue Diode Press, Edinburgh) is available for pre-order at the Poetry Book Society page. www.poetrybooks.co.uk/products/aft...

“This is the nature of nationalist populism, whether it wears a red cap in Michigan or a turquoise rosette in Runcorn. It is expert at turning grievance, division and nostalgia into votes. But when it comes to governing, it will always fail.” Latest column www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Reform clearly spent a lot of money in election campaign, especially in Runcorn. But it will be c 6 months before we know where the cash came from because of the huge lag in donation declarations Surely this should be published in real time as it is during general elections?

Watch Rachel Cohen. She’s incredibly impressive here. She resigned from law firm Skadden, Arps out of disgust at its “payola” deal with Trump, under which Skadden will hand the Trump administration $100m of free legal work to avoid a possible executive order targeting its work.

Reform UK standing up to the elites again.

As your @snp.org candidate for Falkirk West, my campaign will reject the far-right and insular British Nationalism. I’m grateful to have met with members of EFAY in Holyrood, where it was clear we all agree that Europe’s future is with Scotland, and Scotland’s home is in Europe 👇

🚨 ENDORSEMENTS 🚨 I'm genuinely quite humbled at the support I’ve received so far, thank you! Voting Callum #1 is a vote for a campaign to prepare for independence 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Here’s just a few of the reasons why people are backing me to be your @theSNP candidate for Falkirk West 👇

"For the 1st time, mountain rescue teams in England and Wales were called out EVERY day in 2024. Callouts in Scotland topped 1,000 for the first time." The 'Gram and TikTok seem to be responsible for a surge in call outs for 18-24yo (relying on phones, not maps) at hotspots (often simultaneously)

I'm old enough to remember that when Nicola Sturgeon got arrested the Union Media Mother Ship landed. Day in day out, the BBC in Scotland & Sky News wrote article after article to make you think that she had travelled back in time & showed Al Capone what to do A couple of lines from Connor 🙄

I was chatting yesterday about The Shetland Bus. And here is the story, told by Ms Bonham Carter on radio today: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... Incredible bravery of Leif Larsen DSO, DSC, CGM, DSM and Bar and those who served with him. And of those who may serve in Scandinavia again very soon.

Good points being made here about the issue of 2014 weighting (my longstanding nemesis).

He's not wrong

The moment a Low Traffic Neighbourhood goes in, drivers who want to rat run through your street will start shouting that ‘the old and disabled can’t cycle!!!’. As Zwolle, Netherlands, clearly shows, segregated cycling and LTNs *increase* freedom for those with mobility issues.

A great example by Yes Prestwick of how to keep the independence movement visible, captured on video by The Scotland Channel (@thescotlandchannel.bsky.social‬). www.youtube.com/watc...

In the U.K. under the devolution settlement, with a fixed budget, Scotland can't outperform underlying economic conditions set in Westminster. We can't address or mitigate our issues without full powers and our own currency. We need to be making the economic decisions which benefit all of our people

So many reasons for #ScottishIndependence

Kier Starmer just asked why the takeover of the Scunthorpe steelworks, being discussed by Westminster tomorrow, wasn't an option for Port Talbot last year. He ignored the question and didn't answer. I can't describe how angry I feel. Plaid Cymru called for Port Talbot to be nationalised. Ignored...
