Copilot is fishing for our darkest secrets 😂

I applied through the web. Was told they'll process "within 48 hours". No response in 2 weeks... So, after 15(!) days I contacted developer program support and 2 days later got a response basically saying "yeah, we couldn't charge you, forgot to tell you, cancelled enrollment, use the app, kthxbye"

Sometimes LLMs remind me of the very sharp Michael Chrichton observation. blog.ailon.org/llms-as-the-...

One undeniable advantage for web development on the Mac is testing in Safari as you go and not as an afterthought. It's "artificial" though, as it's just Apple gatekeeping.

Heard on some podcast about Buffet's 5/25 rule. It turned out to be "fake" but still sounded like an interesting exercise. The hardest part for me was coming up with the 25 initial goals 😂 I guess this means I have no imagination or something. www.perplexity.ai/search/what-...

I reluctantly switched to Mac as my work machine a little over a week ago. Here are my thoughts on the Mac Mini M4 so far blog.ailon.org/reluctant-ma...

Looking forward to WWDC keynote where Apple will definitely address why my application to their Developer Program that "may take up to 48 hours to process" has been pending for a week now with zero communication. 🤷🏻‍♂️

After a week on a Mac it's... a computer. Tried not to mess with the OS (at least early on) and use the defaults but gave up yesterday. Two keyboard things were driving me crazy and [mostly] not for "Windows user" reasons. So had to install a glorified keylogger to fix...

Welp! Went to lunch and forgot my headphones. Feels weird hearing all the people around me.

New tutorial on marker.js events and updated event documentation. markerjs.com/docs-v3/docu...

OK, Mac people, explain this to me: Home/End keys go to the top/end of the doc/textbox on macOS. Yet most apps from Gmail to Google Docs to Word to VS Code override this to behave like it does on Windows (start of line/end of line). How do you cope with the inconsistency?

It's been a while since I tried to release a "native" Windows app and never released one for macOS before, and this whole code-signing thing basically prices out all the hobbyist developers. The "scary" SmartScreen thing has an escape hatch on Windows, but on a Mac your only option is to pay Apple.

TFW you stop RTFMing at "It is the cheapest option for code signing on Windows..." and proceed to signup 🤦🏻‍♂️

Trying to enroll in Apple's developer program and getting this "extremely informative" error message. After reading through all the requirements and not seeing what's missing it turns out I figure I need to enter "Shipping address" for my Apple Account 🤦‍♂️

Today is a great example in how algorithmic feeds can suck: getting lots of "news" on how Trzaskowski won presidential elections in Poland based on exit polls. When in reality he lost based on the actual results.

Useless pro-tip: if you have 4+ people in your family and all are Apple users you can time your device upgrade cycle to buy someone a new Apple device every 3 months and have Apple TV+ for free for the time being. 😂

Sooo... very reluctantly I got this. Let's see how it goes...

If someone wants to create a completely free macOS app how do they go about signing it these days? Just swallow the $100/year developer fee so that users can run your free app? On Windows you can just instruct people to "run it anyway" despite the OS warning but not on newer Macs.

How good/bad is the lowest spec new Mac Mini (M4/16GB) for your average web dev (front-end, node.js)? I [don't want to but] need to buy a Mac for testing on Safari, building Electron apps, etc. but can't decide whether to buy a used M1 to collect dust or a new M4 and use it as my day-to-day machine

TIL that the Clock app's icon on Android (Samsung?) shows actual time. Windows Phone Live Tile vibes.

Trying to run a little experiment with AdWords and getting this. LOL. OK, Google...

TFW you spend half an hour with Copilot and different LLMs trying to diagnose an issue but then google it and the first result (StackOverflow, obviously) gives you the correct and simple answer. 🤦

It's been many years since the first number was anything but 8. #achievementunlocked

A year+ too late for me. It's kinda weird when a city has no proper app-based taxi service. I was surprised that there was no Uber or Bolt in Ljubljana in 2024.

Suppose you are a franchise owner and one of your franchisees is stringing a customer along for almost a month, promising a payment that never arrives and then not responding to emails. How do you salvage this relationship so that the customer isn't lost to your whole franchise forever?

Google is fucking disgusting. This shit that I never asked for or turned on is driving me mad. And there doesn't seem to be any way to turn it off, other than disabling ALL smart features across ALL of Google's services, like picking up calendar events from flight confirmation emails. #AI 🤮

I don't get how people with families move countries for work these days. Especially to countries with schemes like the US H1B where your visa is tied to an employer. Must be super messed up to get laid off. Hope this goes as painlessly as possible (given the circumstances) for all affected.

The good thing about LLMs is that you can ask the same question in circles without shame and it won't get mad. The bad thing is that people will get used to it and behave the same with other people and drive them crazy. #totallytheoreticalthought #notbasedonanythingathome

Wow, Logitech. This is low. I've unsubscribed from Logitech newsletters a few times but keep getting them. Turns out when you click on unsubscribe you get to this page that says "Unsubscribe from all Logitech emails" it doesn't include Logitech G. You must click the G logo and unsubscribe again.

Last day to get the 50% introductory discount on marker.js 3. markerjs.com

Finally got the One UI 7/Android 15 update on the Galaxy S24 Ultra and my most anticipated "feature" is there 😅
