Useful thread - the initial posts on reviewing & marketing in particular covered some things I wasn't aware of / hadn't pieced together to see the consequences.

Watching Skeleton Crew for something lighter after Andor, & enjoying it a lot. It gets what I think of as the Star Wars aesthetic in a way Andor did too, which is interesting in such wildly different shows, & Jude Law looks like he's having a lot of fun going full ham.

If you want to get yourself a nice trans-positive feminist anthology from a loud and proud trans publisher, may I direct you to Fight Like A Girl 2? Shortlisted for both the BSFA and the BFS awards this year (quite proud of that! wizardstowerpress.com/books-2/anth...

Hey! CANADIAN and USian friends I believe that today you can pick up the, award winning, THE BONE SHIPS, and the second book, CALL OF THE BONE SHIPS for cheap at most good ebook retailers. CLAIM THE BOOTY.

They grow some weird plants around here.

Gonna re-up our recommendation of @jordanscarroll.bsky.social's book Speculative Whiteness. Important work looking at how SFF is co-opted by racist agents of oppression, and how the genre is sometimes complicit. (There are laugh out loud moments where he mocks the alt-right)

Today's writing starts with a community tearing itself apart over the ethics and impact of using violence when under threat. Somehow, everything I write this year has become an echo of conversations I hear in the world, including their lack of easy answers.

For those who do the reviewing thing, Forged for Prophecy, the sequel to Forged for Destiny, is now up for request on Netgalley. Come see what happens when the fake chosen one sets out on a quest.

How are you?

Yesterday, I emailed a psychiatrist and a tattoo artist. Whoever gets back to me first wins, and that's how we do self care in the Year of Our Lord 2025.

A brief blog post on the one week where I did all my book events for the summer. andrewknighton.com/the-week-of-...

Great time at Waterstones Leeds last night talking historical fantasy with @sarahbrooks.bsky.social @stephenaryan.bsky.social & @genevievecogman.bsky.social. As someone who loves both history & fantasy, this was exactly my jam. Huge thanks to @katiebruce.bsky.social for making it happen.

One week to go! And then THE SHAPE OF MONSTERS can be in your earbrains

What a fabulous night! A brilliant discussion on all things historical science fiction and fantasy, great questions from the audience and a lovely signing afterwards! "Sanguinocrat, to the guillotine with you!" - a fabulous line uttered by @genevievecogman.bsky.social

Today's writing starts with the protagonsit talking good people out of doing something terminally stupid, so she can do it for them instead.

I will explain why I think fashion brands should speak up, even if they have profited off the work of undocumented immigrants. 🧵

A great night ahead! With amazing authors 🥳 Join Lyndsey Croal, Lorraine Wilson, and Angie Spoto for a night of #ScottishFolklore 🌳 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 at Blackwell's Edinburgh South Bridge, July 24 7PM. ❤️‍🔥 @lyndseycroal.bsky.social @rainewilson.bsky.social

The huge relief of looking through an editor's comments & agreeing with most of them. That means the ones I don't agree with are probably right too, I just need to let my brain have its defensive sulk, then I can accept the changes to my precious words.

I'm chairing an event at Bradford Waterstone's on 30 June as part of the Bradford Book Festival - featuring Peter F Hamilton and Adrian Tchaikovsky as the stars of the show. Come and enjoy a fun chat if you're in the area. www.bradfordlitfest.co.uk/event/out-of...

Seconding this. It's a great book, & feels like the mood of this morning.

Today's writing sees a protagonist putting the pieces together, then realising he's the one who broke things in the first place.

IT'S HEART OF THE WYRDWOOD RELEASE DAY! This is the last in the FORSAKEN books, the one where you both go , 'WTF, RJ?' and at the same time think, 'Well, of course! It's all so obvious now!' So if deeply strange folk horror fantasy and people working to be better is your jam might be for you.

My review essay on the 2025 @clarkeaward.bsky.social shortlist is now live at @strangehorizons.bsky.social. I argue that what connects the six books on the shortlist is a shared sense of “retro-renewal.” strangehorizons.com/wordpress/no...

Today's writing sees a protagonist unleash the violence she's been hiding. I've been looking forward to this bit, not for the action itself but for the emotional reactions. It's all about wanting to become someone better & fearing the judgement of others.

Happy publication day to this very enjoyable historical horror tale I really enjoyed Maryneal 1963 by Abigail F Taylor www.runalongtheshelves.net/blog/2025/6/...

This Wednesday in Leeds, come listen to us talk about history & sff. From the Mongol horde to revolutionary France to the Trans-Siberian Express, find out how some fabulous authors have filled the past with strange & speculative stories.
