"Restrictive zoning doesn't protect the character of our communities, in fact, by driving young people & working families out... we're sacrificing the very fabric of our communities. For all that MA gets right... we're failing our residents when it comes to housing." @juliancyr.bsky.social

Had #3 happen to me the other day.

While Japan upgrades 4,000 platforms for rail safety, Americans are stuck hoping Amtrak won’t break down and turn their trip into a bus ride.

Even 10ft is too much! There are mostly no, or very small, setbacks in my old New England neighborhood. What little setback we have is used for gardens, which are so much more pleasant to walk by than a ginormous lawn.

No/small setback means more room for a backyard, which actually gets used!

They’ve been kicking this can for over a decade.

My politics in a headline:

“Car free Olympics” Paris: - rail with good headways - bus rapid transit with good headways - protected bike lane network LA: Forget all that old stuff we haven’t tried, we need flying taxis! www.latimes.com/business/sto...

I kinda love that Pete and his bicycle live rent free in Trump’s head. If he’s so insignificant why talk about him.

What is with local news and its preponderance for reactionary bs? No one would be pearl clutching like this over an apartment building that’s all rentals. www.boston25news.com/news/local/b...

My home state can do good things sometimes.

But why no more rentals…?

Montreal is a city with super hot summers, stupid cold winters, and a gigantic hill in the middle of the city, and still it has an amazing network that makes biking fun, convenient, and easy It really is a question of political will

Ceci n’est pas un bus.

Color me surprised. 🙄

Matt Yglesias to my church not wanting to play a role in the government’s overtly racist act: “Just be chill.”

For real why can we not have nice things here? I guess when all city-level decisions are based on fear of how people will react, you get the awful public sphere we have in most places here.

Thank you for finally saying the quiet part out loud. Disgusting.

we don't have to live like this

Today is National Train Day. We must save our intracity rail transit and intercity rail systems that are under attack. Transit is absolutely essential for supporting and stimulating local economies all across the country with value well beyond simply moving people from A to B.

We were only able to find openings at 2(!) daycares near our house. One is $2500/month and the other is $3000/month for 1 infant. We’re basically paying a second mortgage. IDK how we could afford a second kid. 😵‍💫
