Most exciting new music I’ve heard in a while. The songs feel on the edge of falling apart, an emotional breakdown catharsis. open.spotify.com/track/5GHYjI...

Musk should be asked about this in every interview he does now and forever. To ignore it is a dereliction of duty. www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/o...

Taken four months off from writing, to focus on teaching. Enjoyed work, slept well, felt refreshed. Semester's over, diving back into a messy novel, so cue nightmares of plane crashes, of fish hooks stabbing hands, of faceless monsters tugging at ankles, pulling me into darkness. Here we go...

The devastating, shortsighted attack on literature continues. List from Magic City Books. Who'd they miss? Note: the small publishers selected here for financial attack include (among other very worthy and important presses) @transitbooks.bsky.social, publisher of 2023 Nobel laureate Jon Fosse.

Hey, Philly people! Come on out for a night with Paul Lisicky. It's free and open to the public. Hope to see you there.

Look at me, look at me, look at me, I'm tough, look at me, look at me, look at me, I'm a winner, look at me, look at me., look at me...

Had a fantastic night hanging out with the great Victoria Chang at the Villanova Literary Festival. What a reading! And what good company.

It feels a little like this these days.

Poet Victoria Chang will be reading this Tuesday night at Villanova. Philly people, come on out!

So this is what we are. "The Trump administration says that it mistakenly deported an immigrant with protected status but that courts are powerless to order his return." www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

Two weeks from today! Philly people, come on out. The reading is free and open to the public.

Unless the the Republicans grow spines, the world is soon going to be a very different place.

This morning at Dept of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) HQ in DC as mandatory return to office began, this video played on loop for ~5 mins on screens throughout the building, per agency source. Building staff couldn’t figure out how to turn it off so sent people to every floor to unplug TVs.

Had a few moments today to contemplate a greater nation.

Just wondering if MAGAs, when they went to the polls, thought, Yes, I'd like the US to be a Russian satellite state. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/16/w...

Abandon and kill people, obliterate our standing in the world, and give China and Russia an opening to reshape global alliances. www.telegraph.co.uk/global-healt...

RIP Connie. It'd be impossible to overstate how much she meant to so many writers.

Hey Philly people! Come on out this Tuesday for the start of the Villanova Lit Fest. It's free and open to the public.

Man, I could really use a new Sade album right now. pitchfork.com/news/sade-ad...

This is a hostile takeover of the federal government by a private citizen of unlimited means with no restrictions and no transparency. Welcome to the Deep State www.reuters.com/world/us/mus...

Heading to the grocery later. Gonna check on the price of those eggs. newrepublic.com/article/1910...

Lit Fest starts Tuesday! Philly people, come on out. It's free and there will be brownies. (Not those kind.)

Gonna need a whole lot more of this from many, many more leaders. youtu.be/prhOKl4k0O0?...

Should go get yourself one of these.

The daily evil of this man... "Trump said he will be conditioning aid to California, demanding the 'water to be released.' He also said he wants voter ID in the state." www.cnn.com/politics/liv...

Villanova Lit Fest's first event is fast approaching. If you're in the Philly area come on out. All events are free and open to the public. Hope to see you there!

Predictably, this was his response to it: “Not too exciting, was it?” the president said as he walked with staff toward the Oval Office. “I didn’t think it was a good service. They could do much better."

The problem is, it seems, many people in this country want authoritarian rule. They think they're in the club and that the dear leader will protect them. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/22/o...

Excited to announce the 2025 Villanova University Lit Fest! If you're in the Philly area, come on out. All events are free and open to the public.

Draft of the next novel sent to NYC. Commence nail biting.

Well, here's some serious whiplash.

Amazing that the CA governor has to do this at all. MAGA, of course, won't care, but keep this handy for the semi-sane people out there. gavinnewsom.com/california-f... www.newsweek.com/gavin-newsom...

I grew up on what had been a ranch south of LA--orange and avocado groves, strawberry fields, and open wilderness down to the Pacific. That's all gone now. Just tract homes and shopping malls. Could all go up in smoke as easily as the Palisades. Man, so much lost. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/12/o...

While the destruction is ongoing, Republicans decide to engage in political terrorism. The cruelty is amazing. They've normalized it.

Man, can't even get thoughts and prayers now.

While 100,000 people have been evacuated and many more are in danger due to the devastating fire in Southern California, Donald Trump is launching a deranged political attack on Governor ‘Newscum.’ Not a day goes by without Trump reminding us how utterly unfit he is to be president of the U.S.

This should be good for our nominal democracy. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/07/b...

Got a trip to the Philly Art Museum in over the weekend. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but this is always one of my favorites. "Prometheus Bound," Peter Paul Reubens and Franz Snyders, 1618.

Seems like this isn't getting enough attention. www.bbc.com/news/article...

A truth about the world: It's always windy on recycling day.

Well, hello. Where have you been all my life?

Cinematically beautiful "ambient" music. Today's writing soundtrack.
