One of the things that I didn't consider before actually preparing to move is how unsettling it is to go from being a responsible gardener, composting as much as possible, to throwing into the trash one's otherwise compostable food waste because the entire property will end up in landfill anyway.

You know, for someone with a history degree, working on a history thesis, & having the resultant familiarity with paper-based resources/media, I have tried to pinch & zoom to read the fine print/detail on physical, printed-on-paper copies of floor plans an embarrassing number of times lately.

I'm really not sure why it seems impossible for people to even give an approximate time that they'll call you when they insist on calling you (or calling you back). It's so disrespectful to assume that it's A-OK to expect me to wait around for hours &/or drop everything to answer your call.

Today is the kind of day where it's tempting just to squeeze a tube of sweetened condensed milk directly into my mouth.

I know I'm very late to the party, but I've started watching Citadel to distract myself from everything going on right now, and I'm only up to episode 4, but I'm surprised to find that this really feels like the spiritual successor to Alias. And I loved Alias. I considered "WWSBD?" for a tattoo.

Very few phone operating system/UI updates have pissed me off quite as much as the one Samsung just pushed through. Everything is slower, harder to find/access, looks wrong, & the camera seems incredibly glitchy. I would be tempted to roll it back if I wasn't afraid it'd brick my phone.

Also, there should be some kind of award or medal for all the authors who endure (with great grace) painfully cringeworthy conversations at the signing table with enthusiastic but awkward people. (People like me.) (A stiff drink. The award is probably a stiff drink.) #sydneywritersfestival

I'm broke, but considering it's all thanks to the Sydney Writers' Festival I'll consider it an investment and money well spent. #sydneywritersfestival

If I never again encountered the phrase "knock down rebuild", it would be too soon.

I have always been very prone to getting songs stuck in my head, sometimes for days at a time. I suspect it's an ADHD thing. That happened earlier this week, &, at last, after several days, that great Midnight Oil song had faded from my internal background soundtrack... And then I opened Bluesky...

Did it pixellate the details in the photo, including the years? They're 1903 to 1926, which means most were printed in his lifetime, and they are precious to me. I just... I've only seen these in state/uni libraries, and now they're mine to take home. And not touch much as they're falling apart.

If you've spoken to me even briefly about my thesis in the last 15 months you'll be able to imagine just how excited I was to turn & stumble across this pile on the floor of a new & used book store in Hobart. And then how overwhelmed I was that Aaron bought them for me as an anniversary present.

I just had to get a photo of this for @whaler.bsky.social .

I check the little screen, I check the big screen, I check the watch screen, I check the tablet screen. I check the screen that reminds me of the good times, I check the screen that reminds me of the better times.

There are just not enough hours in the day for me to simply lay face down on my bed in a kind of stupor and groan, it seems.
