Peace through strength means having the power to obliterate your enemies while having the wisdom to know when to hold it back.

If you follow any ideology, political, religious, or philosophical, and your answer to "What are the flaws?" is "None, if applied correctly," then I hate to break it to you, but you might be in a cult.

I'm going to the protest today and I urge everyone to attend your local demonstrations. We must have our voices heard as our country slides into hard authoritarianism. We still have a Democratic Republic, but we have to keep it. Be safe and peaceful and stand up. No kings! đźš« đź‘‘

Deploying the military to aid the police is a risky decision. It fundamentally changes the psychological landscape and can embolden bad actors in any uniform to abuse their power. There are very good reasons why it should only be reserved for the most dire of situations.

When you shoot someone just trying to go home you're not a peacekeeper you're an agent of terror. www.theguardian.com/us-news/vide...

MLK, and his movement, used the American Flag and no other as their primary symbol. Just something to think about.

I used to use the word "gay" as a pejorative, but now I actively try to unlearn it. I can remember being on early internet games and having debates with people about how the behavior of homosexuality was an evil in society. It's remarkable how much a person can change. 👇🧵

Sometimes I feel a little crazy, but then I just think about those people who take the random capitalizations in Trump's online posts and try to discover a message. That makes me feel better.

My fear of mosquito hawks (Crane Flies) has declined proportionally with age. As a kid they were genetically engineered super predators. As a young adult they still made me uneasy and now they're just creepy. I'm thinking in a few more decades I can catch them with my bare hands.

The word jargon is actually a good example of jargon.

It can be tempting to point out the hypocrisy of an interlocutor in a debate, but it's actually considered a fallacy called the tu quoque. This is because it's entirely possible for someone to hold a correct position and also behave in a totally hypocritical way off stage.

"There can be no peace without freedom of religion, freedom of thought, freedom of expression and respect for the views of others." - Pope Francis's final address

This level of deception is staggering to me. Trans Day of Visibility has always fallen on March 31st. What Biden did was set up an annual proclamation of that day and in 2024 it, by coincidence, fell on Easter Sunday. He was then accused of directly attacking the Christian holiday. 👇

In the land of the free due process is given to all persons by default, not just citizens.

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct…There must be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts." - Theodore Roosevelt

It seems to me that the concept of overthinking was born out of what some might call an excessive amount of thought. Or am I overthinking it?

Humans naturally imitate others; it's a vital method by which we propagate information. Yet true progress emerges when individuals challenge norms, introducing original ideas that propel our advancement beyond mere imitation.

If a child is taught to believe they should outsource their decision making by default then that stunts their capacity for independence later in life. This is abusive parenting no matter how much it's dressed it up with religion or culture. Parents should prepare children for life, not stunt them.

Douglas Adams' large friendly words seem to never escape relevancy in everything we do. If we can keep our heads on straight and emotions in check then it's just a matter of finding our moments to shine.

Imagine how wetness emerges from water, yet we can study its unique qualities. In the same way, consciousness emerges from the brain but shows its own distinct, causal traits. So we have two separate ontological categories: the physical and the properties of the physical.

Freedom is having the choice to prioritize order over chaos.

This misrepresents clinical depression. Clinical depression is characterized by the absence of meaning and purpose, even when circumstances should provide them. When a depressed person starts to find meaning again, it's usually a sign of recovery.

Advocating bans often reveals a failure of imagination—an incredulity about potential benefits or sensible safeguards. Insisting on prohibition forever shuts the door on smarter, more balanced solutions.

You can’t violate the separation of powers to unmask corruption. Tempting as shortcuts are, courts dismiss evidence obtained by breaking the rules. True justice isn’t served by cutting corners.

The Constitution is more powerful than Donald Trump or Elon Musk. m.youtube.com/watch?v=eI14...

We're here baby!

Apocalypticism is a societal progress killer. Once someone believes the world is imminently doomed then they stop contributing to its success. Then the end of the world can become a self fulfilling prophecy if too many people check out and stop caring about the bigger picture.
