Reporters cant internalize the SCOTUS`s preposterously high legal standard. They would extend such deference to no other world leader. Its corruption, whether there is an "explicit quid pro quo" or "official acts", regardless of what SCOTUS says.

“So Vance is either woefully misinformed, or he is lying to justify a hardline demand, but either way he is wrong in what he says.” daniellarison.substack.com/p/vance-talk...

I am shocked and saddened by the sudden passing of my colleague Joseph Nye, who recruited me to Harvard a quarter-century ago. He was a highly accomplished scholar, an innovative Dean, and a devoted public servant. Also a very decent and humane man, who will be missed at Harvard and beyond.

Port of LA Director says there are about 4 to 7 weeks of normal inventory in the country. After that, you're going to start seeing spot shortages. It would probably be a 1-month period, even after a full US-China deal is reached, for normal operations to resume.

The MAGA Inc dinner is going to be interesting. There are always CEOs buying tickets to this to lobby for tariff suspensions/exemptions. Might get some new ones in the days ahead.

How completely uninvolved in the raising of his own children was this guy?

Did he just watch this movie?

Soooo, the domestic distributors would have to pay the tariff as assessed on the value of the distribution rights, right?

Recommission the Enola Gay, but renamed as the Enola No Homo.

Also, is the man behind him a soldier wearing a sign that just says "drugs" or a narco-trafficker carrying a box of drugs that is accurately labeled as such?

Can we get a historically good Egyptian winger on every team in the Premier League?

Whats with the nerd get up? Did he reverse the Dominican gene therapy he had gotten?

All these rich people suddenly start talking like Brad Pit's character from Fight Club.

I dont know what "bespoke deals" are but its crazy that hes referencing that disastrous session with the Japanese to show how on top of things they are.

"Even if Trump were to keep backpedaling and concede on the trade wars, the sheer chaos of the past month has exposed for many foreign investors the risks that come with funneling so much of their money into dollars." www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

At this point, the only thing that seems to be keeping the dollar from collapsing is the lack of an adequate alternative currency that can fill the void. I don't see this being enough to keep the dollar's central position if US policy-making continues on this course.

I can tell you with certainty that the number one question in Beijing foreign policy circles is "What does Trump wants? What are his trade demands?" I don't think they'd be so confused if there were ongoing talks. They'd be wondering about redlines and strategy, not "what do they even want?"

I’ll assume there was no follow-up — asking whether “front-loading” is masking incremental consumer weakness. 🙄 @jeffstein.bsky.social

We are just cycling through rationalizations. So, does this mean the negotiations arent happening? Obviously, if the tariffs are being negotiated away, they won't generate revenue.

lmao

Trump's interview with Time is wild. This is what he thinks the US economy is? A department store where he sets the prices?

Do traders have Stockholm Syndrome? Rally today appears based on WSJ report that we might have "only" 50-65% tariff on Chinese goods. That's still a huge effing tariff - roughly triple the average effective tariff rate on China last year. US companies still don't have margins to absorb this

As the JPM desk wrote on Monday: “.. this isn’t [panic selling]. This is a continued flight from USD-denominated assets, and no measure of retail flow, mutual fund flow or prime data will tell you if/when to buy.” 💔

Jan Schakowsky, the incumbent in my race, will reportedly not seek re-election. So it seems like a good time to reintroduce myself — I’m Kat Abughazaleh and I’m running for Congress.

Steady diet of downgrades today: UNH (HSBC) UPS (Wells) Texas Instruments (Barclays) Macy's (Goldman) eBay (Bernstein) Kraft Heinz (Bernstein) @cnbc.com

He's not a doctor. Why is he talking about any of this? You can be HHS Sec and not be a doctor but you have to keep your role to managing bureaucracy and programs. Not dictating what disease is real or what causes what.

Why would China make a deal with this insanely weak hand?

The biggest GOP donor in history's wealth is being floated by government environmental regulation.

GOLDMAN: “.. The unemployment rate and job-finding probability weaken noticeably about two to three months into a growth slowdown, .. we expect to see continued softness in the survey data before the hard data start to weaken around mid-to-late summer.”

Food insecurity makes people fat. We've known this for decades. When you have a very limited budget for food, produce and protein become luxury items and you try to fill up with cheap carbs like rice and bread.

Today in life under competitive authoritarianism:

How? With tariffs???

Liberation day hangover.

The more I learn about this purge at the DoD, the more it doesn't make sense. There's definitely a lot more to this. Way too much palace intrigue.

I joined CNBC to address the ongoing US-Iran talks regarding nuclear issues & sanctions relief. During the discussion, we explored various aspects, including the viability of a military assault, what Israel wants, and the intriguing role of the GCC. www.cnbc.com/video/2025/0...

The Trump administration is really trying to convince everyone (and themselves?) that foreign trade barriers are the cause ("As a result ...") of US bilateral trade deficits, but that's just not how it works.

Hegseth was apparently sharing military details on a SECOND Signal group. He just loves Signal.

Well, this also the underpinning framework of the liberal international order.

I dont know if its true that Iran wants a treaty. It would be a mistake as a treaty wouldnt be a meaningful guarantee. The President can unilaterally withdraw from treaties without Congressional approval.
