It would be very interesting to convene a group of like 20 normal people and ask them how they think the immigration system should work. Not whether it should be "tougher," but literally, how they think people should be able to apply for residency.

April Ignacio asked the room of Tohono O’odham police officers who was familiar with the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women movement. Just 3 of the 15 officers raised their hands. story via @diinsilversmith.bsky.social

The White House is touting tax benefits for tipped workers in the reconciliation bill, but 2 million tipped workers could be among those at risk of losing health coverage because of the #Medicaid and #ACA marketplace cuts in the bill. (1/3) www.nbcwashington.com/news/busines...

NEW: The Trump admin finalized an emergency regulation, which goes into effect tomorrow, authorizing DHS to impose civil monetary penalties for immigration law violations with far less due process. The rule could lead to DHS imposing exorbitant fines on millions of people — fines they can't afford.

The weaponization of denaturalization - literally stripping people of American citizenship - is a big step further down the slippery slope of ethnic cleansing.

A secret, never-mentioned fact is that the people who voted for Zohran are also taxpayers. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Since Mamdani won the Dem NYC mayor nomination with a free bus proposal, let's talk about free transit. Research suggests that free transit: a—increases ridership b—doesn't get people out of cars c—benefits youth, elderly & low-income ppl d—doesn't add employment e—maybe ups operational efficiency

Extremely important.

Mallahan goes after Harrell. Even if Wilson and Mallahan haven't made a Mamdani-Lander alliance, they seem aligned on this: We don't need a billionaire-coddling, hostile-workplace-creating, abuser-defending dude to stay in power. Love to see it! rondezvous.beehiiv.com/p/joe-mallah...

apropos of nothing in particular, did you know that when people "passed away" in Nazi camps due to privation, disease or brutal treatment, history remembers that as acts of murder?

To put it another way: Zohran Mamdani received more than 432,000 votes, which would have won you 10 different states last November.

Still struggling with the idea that the President authorized a country, with which we were engaged in armed conflict, to attack a US base with US soldiers in harm's way ("gunners") and it isn't a bigger story. This goes beyond even impeachment and removal from office.

people don't like when you snatch the fucking ice cream man off the street in front of a church

Each time a remotely progressive candidate wins office in the US, the rich declare they're going to leave town. What do they actually do? Nothing. A 2016 study found only 0.04% of millionaires move in a given year due to tax increases. Rich people talk to feel important. Please properly tax them.

Nothing says "flawless and effective" like misspelling "effective."

The corporate charter of the Nippon Steel takeover of US Steel gives Donald J. Trump personal power over the company. @mmasnick.bsky.social wonders what to call this, since it ain't nationalization. It's classic fascist authoritarianism.

They shattered her car window. They cuffed her in front of her daughter. With no warrant. No charges. No evidence. No due process. We must demand Noemi’s release. #DisappearedInAmerica #AbductedByTrump

Um. Going to suggest that making *lists of Jews* based on the Jewishness of their names sounds WAY WAY WAY more antisemitic than saying "Israel shouldn't be committing war crimes." But what do I know?

John Roberts has finally produced his own Dred Scott decision. He must be so proud of what he has wrought. Historians will indeed remember Roberts. In infamy. I wonder if he hears that in his social life, in his fawning rightwing cocktail party circles.

This won’t succeed but it is not normal. This is very dangerous. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

just saying, if an pro-transit mayor wants to fund some ambitious policies, there is a massive goldmine of 3 million free parking spaces in New York City just sitting there waiting to be metered

This is a poem

So I was curious about that racist law school paper that won an award and decided to go read it. Guys, it's BAD. And I don't just mean the morally repugnant conclusion, his reasoning is downright laughable. So I'm going to do what his professor should've done and show exactly how wrong it is. 🧵

So weird. They’re all just so fucking weird.

Right. Laws should face a long period of public deliberation. Doing laws in secret just hands power to authoritarians.

Budzinski: Families making over $700,000 a year will see a boost of $12,000 almost entirely from tax cuts. Shockingly, households making $23,000 a year or less are set to lose about $1600 a year, mostly due to deep cuts to Medicaid and food assistance

scientists consistently found that consumption of ice cream led to reduced risk for t2 diabetes and insulin resistance. They didn't want to believe this and buried the data in favor of yogurt when they published. Multiple scientists have tried to disprove the data since & it backfired every time.
