No, I don’t want a doctorate in education to manage people. I just want to teach people how to teach secondary English and make this profession more sustainable for new teachers 😭

The head of FEMA who said he didn't know there's a hurricane season is a white man with no prior experience managing natural disasters who got his job despite his lack of qualifications in large part because of his race and gender.

Jonathan Joss--voice actor of John Redcorn from King of the Hill, and Ken Hotate from Parks and Rec--was killed in a homophobic hate crime today. I'm so angry.

Every streaming service should have two categories for documentaries, “Documentaries” and “Okay, But, Like, Actual Documentaries”.

BREAKING: The new head of FEMA told staff he did not know that the United States had a hurricane season. Yes, I am serious. www.reuters.com/world/us/fem...

"The hallways...were absolutely lined with ICE agents. And immigrants were scared to leave, even though their cases were still open. What happened was that ICE agents then stormed into the courtroom, kicked out the attorneys, and detained everyone in the courtroom over the judge's objections."

I think a lot about how Aaron Swartz committed suicide while facing a probably long jail sentence for download some of JSTOR, but no one at Meta is going to face any repercussions for using all of Libgen to train its AI.

What was done to Israelis on October 7th, and the ongoing detention of the hostages, was and is an atrocity. The ongoing genocide in Gaza was not an appropriate response— it is also an atrocity. Responding to that atrocity with fresh ones, like Jews being gunned down or set on fire? Also atrocity.

Toxic to the rule of law, and yet another example of ICE/CBP deliberately *not* looking for all those supposed criminals, drug traffickers, terrorists, etc. They're going for literally the least dangerous, most law-abiding people they can find, the ones following every rule. The easiest targets.

What infuriates me so much about this new operation is that it is literally punishing people for following the rules and showing up to their court hearings. It is so toxic to the basic concept of following the rules. It is an operation designed by people who hate the concept of the rule of law.

The lesson people infuriatingly never seem to master is that there is no creating a police state just for other people. If you create a police state with no due process for immigrants or accused criminals, then that's the system you've created for yourself.

One of the big blind spots liberal elites have about this country is that they have no idea how prominent and prevelant stuff like "Christian Wealth Seminars" are. These typically recruit unsophisticated people into the scam *and* promote conservative ideology.

I think if we just started calling raw milk what it really is, poopy milk, people would maybe stop thinking it’s some sorta miracle elixir.

Reminds me when evangelists say AI can fight climate change by improving climate modelling or making plant-based meat. Ignores that the fundamental problem w/ climate is political - fossil fuel and agro-industry will criminalize anything that threatens its power. That is a problem AI can't solve.

Kill all the data so nobody can call them out on their shit.

Trump's eruption at Leonard Leo is deranged but the really bad part is where Trump basically says straight out that he should be allowed to disregard Congress when he decrees there's an emergency. He's laying the whole tyrant thing bare. New piece from me: newrepublic.com/article/1959...

Aside from the absurdity on display here, consider what is happening with Pell Grants.

Big strong SS troopers throwing grenades into a restaurant to protect diners from the existential peril of kitchen workers.

its crazy how dominant germany was in science (especially chemistry) in the 19th century, it was basically the international language for scientists, people came from all over the world to train at heidelberg etc, and then....

Someone else said something very similar to this the other day, but. It really burns me that our (millennials') generation was legally terrorized for like, downloading Radiohead discographies But we're supposed to be ok with billionaires stealing human intellectual output in its entirety bc AI

Begging people to read this book so that they can understand the enemy we are dealing with 🧪 en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pow...

NAACP calls for emergency shutdown of Musk’s supercomputer in Memphis

How bad will it be? Catastrophic. Proposed cuts to #NSF, #NIH, and #NASA will set the US R&D landscape back 25 yrs+, cause economic and job loss now, and undermine innovations to come. But, this is the WH's *proposed* budget. Speak up now before it is too late. (inflation adjusted $-s below)

This has to stop. Has to.

welcome to the future

Elon Musk doesn’t appear to be going anywhere — and according to federal workers, DOGE has been busier than ever: www.wired.com/story/doge-e...

You'd think news outlets would stop taking as true the every utterance of people who do nothing but lie, and stop writing headlines, stories, op eds based on the premise that this time they're acting in good faith, but nope here goes Charlie Brown kicking the football again.

The irony of states doing this while pushing AI in schools drips like acid.

Elon Musk: eyyy stephano king Musk: now that i'ma no worka at doge Musk: i haffa more time to forra da important things Stephen King: oh, like your family? Musk: Musk: no Musk: notta dat
