I wish people would stop describing things that are indisputably provable as a matter of fact as "controversial." People not liking a fact doesn't mean the fact is controversial. Reality is not malleable around our beliefs and it shouldn't be. We need to stop acting like it is.

Even the *good* news now is like “judge temporarily blocks administration from performing fingernail torture on people who recycle.”

OK i’ve seen almost no media outlet pick up on the fact the Supreme Court ruling endorsed conversion therapy and opens a portal to the normalization of conversion therapy nationally so here’s a thread explaining how they did so, and why you should care (1/x)

It is firmly in the “somebody’s making an active decision to downplay this” territory.

Everyone I knew who covered disinformation got laid off, their bosses got bullied into firing them, or they changed their beats from actual Nazi harassment campaigns. It cannot be stressed the damage the paid-for Substack “free speech” guys did in the service of fascism and against real free speech.

Cops-- pathetic. Fuck off. www.hamiltonnolan.com/p/youre-a-bu...

Cops are shooting impact munitions madly. They're shooting at people who are simply moving along on sidewalks and leaving the area as they were ordered to do. No one in this video is throwing anything at police. Mounted cops are coming up behind people and hitting them with extra long riot batons.

The em dash supposedly being a “tell” for AI generated text does sort of give away the game on the enormous amount of work stolen from journalists and news organizations that these things were trained on

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

New in PN: Trump's ludicrously sloppy legal rationale for occupying LA "The problem, as with so many other things in the Trump era, is that he's flouting norms, not just laws. If Trump chooses to read the Insurrection Act absurdly broadly, it’s not clear there is an easy way to stop him."

Florida child welfare officers found a 17-year-old living in a shed with no food or water. They sent him to a foster home... and then reported him to ICE, whereupon he was handcuffed and shackled and marched to detention. Not only is that victimizing him again, it violates Florida's own rules.

Pope Leo’s first US episcopal appointment, San Diego’s Bishop-designate Pham, a Vietnamese refugee, invites priests and faith leaders to “stand in solidarity”with migrants at courthouse on June 20, as they make court appearances.

It's literally copied from a war bonds poster, and DHS got it from a Twitter white supremacist.

These 18 Senate Dems just voted to advance the crypto industry's money laundering bill: Alsobrooks Booker Cortez Masto Fetterman Gallego Gillibrand Hassan Heinrich Hickenlooper Kelly Kim Lujan Padilla Rosen Schiff Slotkin Warner Warnock

this is the New York Times both-sidesing actual science. "pro-vaccine groups" as in SCIENTISTS and DOCTORS

This is a real thing being posted and circulated by the Department of Homeland Security, referring to undocumented immigrants as “foreign invaders” and urging good Americans to turn them in. (I’ll leave it to BlueSky historians to find comparisons to WWII era materials.)

Trump went to the Kennedy Center and Drag Queens showed up! Yassssssssss ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

"Accelerationism is often connected to the white replacement theory, a white nationalist conspiracy theory that falsely asserts that there is a deliberate plot to diminish the influence and power of white people by replacing them with nonwhite populations."

Too bad there is no organized opposition party that could in one clear voice support the protesters.

"[F]or political reasons, the Trump administration has decided to play in that space, that is, to charge and indict people whom it does not reasonably expect to convict. The criminal justice process, even without a conviction, is a special kind of punishment," writes @benjaminwittes.lawfaremedia.org

NEW: The Trump admin has plans to send thousands of foreigners to Guantanamo beginning as early as this week, including citizens of close allies UK & France, with no intention of notifying their home governments in advance, per sources and documents

ngl this map of scheduled protests for this weekend is *wild*

I have a hard time mentally processing any claims that Los Angeles is a “distraction” given that deploying the military if he gets pissed off and also expansively cruel immigration crackdowns were like the top two things he ran on in 2024

It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence. They are in charge.

Credit where it’s due, I appreciate the pivot away from smarmy attempts at “well ackshually the real crisis is prices” dunks and shift to sincere focus on the horrors Trump is inflicting.

i wrote about how therapists are hearing more deportation concerns during sessions. one mental healthcare worker in philly told me a patient shared that their child hides every time they hear sirens because they think it's an ICE raid:

The Trump regime has charged their first Democratic member of Congress for the crime of political opposition. The Trump regime is trying to make it illegal to oppose them. They want to ban freedom of speech and end free and fair elections. This is what dictatorship looks like.

The state Department of Finance estimated in the 2021-22 fiscal year that it costs California over $100,000 per year on average to house a prisoner.

The Frightening Prospect of Being Sent to Prison in Another Country

What Terry Moran said shouldn’t be controversial. It's precisely the context missing from so much network news and corporate media reporting: The motive. And that motive is hatred. www.mediaite.com/media/tv/bre...

If you're a Muslim in these prisons, you'll have to pay more. Why do Islamic prayer beads cost four times more than a rosary?

this is going around as people finger wag about optics and peaceful protests and i just want to note that the cop here - john pike - received retirement, 8mos of suspended leave pay, and $38k for the pain and suffering of macing kids the students received $6k-30k, most at the lower end

If you're looking to background any LA sheriff's deputies this week to see if they have a history of bad behavior, here is a searchable collection I made of all the disciplinary and use of force (SB 1421/ SB16) records LASD has released so far: journaliststudio.google.com/pinpoint/sea...

PHILLY: Man posing as an ICE agent robs car repair business, ties up and manhandles a woman from the Dominican Republic — “He kept saying he is immigration officer.” It was only a matter of time before these masked vigilantes breed impersonators. www.fox29.com/video/1501153

This is the kind of thing that is going to happen constantly now that we have an unaccountable masked gang with complete impunity: Random scammers, stalkers and criminals are just going to pretend to be ICE, because why not?

see, the thing *i’m* genuinely worried about is that RFK will effectively ban vaccines

At this point I have nothing to say to or about protestors. The executive should not be sending active duty military to a major city with a vague mandate, in violation of the only statute that he has cited, while his lawyers draft rules of engagement on the fly. Period.

There is no rationale for removing every member of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) and replacing them, except for RFK Jr. to appoint members who spread disinformation. I am *disgusted* by Republicans for letting this happen to the U.S. abcnews.go.com/amp/Health/r...
