I have a feeling this is the case for a vast range of political issues that are just trickier to measure than migrant flows.

Morbidly curious if Iran could come up with a gift to Trump big enough to get him to “it’s fine if they have nukes. Big deal.”

Ok. But even if it’s not a done deal yet, the fact giving Trump a jet is “under consideration” tells you all you need to know about what countries are being told they need to do to be an ally with America under Trump. www.politico.com/news/2025/05...

Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, Kristi Noem and a whole lot of ICE/DHS types is will discover a Strange New Respect for habeas corpus and the rule of law when the 2029 Truth and Reconciliation Commission arrests them for human trafficking, conspiracy, kidnapping, and child abuse.

So let me get this straight: masks are bad and un-American if worn to fight a pandemic, but good if worn by people claiming to be government agents when they kidnap people off the street

@briefingwithpsaki.bsky.social This Alt Whitehouse Press Briefing needs to be put in the rotation at least weekly! Loved it

NEW: ALA salutes Dr Carla Hayden for her exceptional service to the nation as the Librarian of Congress. We are deeply disappointed in Dr Hayden's abrupt & unjust dismissal last night, an insult to the scope & breadth of her work. Read ALA Pres. Cindy Hohl's statement: www.ala.org/news/2025/05...

A Chicago Pope implies the existence of an MLA Pope and APA Pope

what is fascinating to me is the number of people whose “knowledge” of government appears to just be an accumulation of cliches and stereotypes + an inchoate sense that if something is big and costly then it must necessarily be “wasteful”

Walz: When did government get to tell you how many dolls your child has? Government just big enough to fit in your bedroom, your womb, and apparently now in your toy chest.

I lied to a guy on national TV. So I decided to track him down and say I was sorry. This is the story of my search. www.cjr.org/analysis/pol...

JUST IN: ProPublica’s “Life of the Mother” series, which exposes the fatal consequences of abortion bans, has won the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. This is the second consecutive year we’ve been awarded this distinction and our eighth Pulitzer: www.propublica.org/series/life-...

The Qatar Economic Forum is hosting a public session on how to make money off of Trump’s bribery and corruption schemes. This is where we are.

Here it is. A timetable of 100 days of corruption. Breathtaking. Heartbreaking. We cannot let this stand.

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise." Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms. Ethical violation as POLICY.

Your kids get a max of two toys and then grow up to work in the same factory as their father and grandfather screwing in tiny screws. It’s called The American Dream.

"The president of the United States launching his own cryptocurrency....It almost breaks the brain when you actually read the facts of it." The corruption is no less shocking for being out in the open. Joe Weisenthal joins @timmiller.bsky.social on today’s Bulwark Podcast:

Pritzker: The reckoning is here. And now that this culture of timidity is on display, these same do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on the defense of Black people, trans kids, and immigrants, instead of on their own lack of guts and gumption.

Pritzker: And we have a president who claims to love America but hates our military so much that can’t be bothered to delay his golf game to greet the bodies of four fallen U.S. soldiers.

Pritzker: Time to stop wondering if you can trust the nuclear codes to people who don’t know how to organize a group chat. It’s time to stop ignoring the hypocrisy in wearing a big gold cross while announcing the defunding of children’s cancer research…

Prof McBride, USNA 1974, PhD Johns Hopkins, went on to say, “Your acquiescence was a repudiation of the Naval Academy’s historic mission. You may take some solace that the removal of these books was a lawful order. However, such an interpretation runs contrary to larger Constitutional issues ..

Arresting judges. Threatening allies. Lying about trade deals. Trying to sell campaign merch from the White House. Floating a 2028 run. Deranged. Dangerous. Undemocratic. We must retake our democracy.

China has returned two Boeing jets, each valued at $55 million. With $69 million in tariffs applied, the cost per plane increased to $124 million. Orders for an additional 130 jets have been indefinitely suspended.

Walz: If you say you love freedom but you don't believe freedom is for everybody, then the thing you love is not freedom, it is privilege.

these people hate DEI because they would be unemployable in any system where they couldn’t rely on favoritism and nepotism

This should be the top story in Axios’s morning read. But it isn’t. It’s the FIFTH top story. @axios.com www.axios.com/2025/04/23/t...

Journalist need to start finding and interviewing the parents of our elected officials to find out what the fuck went wrong.

The conservative movement has turned against reality on every scientific issue of our time, from gun violence to climate change to epidemiology. If campuses are ideologically homogenous, it's not because academia has ostracized conservatives. It's because conservatives have ostracized academia.

Q: "How do you respond to Governor Newsom?" Sen. Van Hollen: "I think Americans are tired of elected officials or politicians who are all finger to the wind...Anybody who can't stand up for the Constitution and the right of due process doesn't deserve to lead."

I designed and had these made for me and my friends for when we protest in little, dark red Fremont, Ohio. I hope something like this takes off as the protesting continues. @maddow.msnbc.com @hcrichardson.bsky.social @sanduskycodems.bsky.social @housedemocrats.bsky.social

Reminds me of all the Republicans in Congress who celebrated the Fourth of July in Moscow. Except they were there to celebrate Putin and never updated their plaques. Chris Van Hollen traveled to save a constituent. These assholes won’t even show up at a townhall in their district

JD Vance keeps saying "the left" won't engage his arguments on Abrego Garcia. Here is a piece that attempts to directly and systematically challenge one of Vance's core assertions: That Abrego Garcia already got due process and was deemed eligible for deportation: newrepublic.com/article/1941...

It's genuinely hard to express to sort of normal not politically plugged in non-lawyers *how* lawless the Trump administration is, and I think that's some part of the problem. You sound like you're hyperventilating, but it's just a flat description of what is going on.
