What are four non-Criterion movies you’d add to the Criterion Collection? #FilmSky

The music in #Sinners is of course great, but I feel the film’s MVP is its cinematographer: Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Her work on the film, particularly in one amazing musical number, is spectacular. Wish I saw this in IMAX before Thunderbolts took them over. Thanks Disney 👍🏻 #filmsky #moviesky #cinema

Part gangster film, part vampire film. There are aspects Ryan Coogler could’ve explored more, but this was immensely fun. Monster films have always been gateways into deeper themes. Sinners takes a nuance &, at times, obvious look at racism, generational violence, music & cultural appropriation. 👍🏻👍🏻

Wee bit late to the party, but finally watching #Sinners!! #Filmsky

Lasse Hallström’s Oscar nominated film My Life As A Dog is an overly sentimental but beautifully made film about growing up & having to adapt quickly as a young child to the harsh & unforgiving world around you. It’s often sad, but also it’s a touching film. Bittersweet & funny, like how life can be

This movie rules! One of my favourites from last year.

#ThePhoenicianScheme from #WesAnderson may run risk of alienating both fans of his & those new to him, but the film is bolstered by the director’s ever immaculate & precise style & tone. The look & design of this film is spectacular. Plus the cast is fantastic. Lot of good deadpan humour in this.

Damn! This scene from #TwinPeaks #TheReturn: Part 4 sure does hit right in the feels. Still very moving, even eight years after its release. #DavidLynch #TVSky

Started watching #TwinPeaks #TheReturn again! Just seen the first two parts. So glad David Lynch & Mark Frost got back together again to somewhat finish what they started after the show got cancelled, as well as after the response Fire Walk With Me got. Always fun to come back to this show.

Richard Linklater’s Waking Life is not his best work, but is still a fascinating & intriguing film. A philosophical & spiritual successor to Slacker. Strange, avant-garde, but fun. Part documentary, part analytical Ted talk, part animation film. Worth watching, but don’t go into it expecting a plot.

I’m pretty proud of this piece. I wrote a BLAXPLOITATION starter back for @letterboxd.social. Here are 20 titles you should watch as soon as possible!

Playing catch up at the moment with #TheBear before the 4th Season comes out. Onto Season 3. This really is an excellent show. As someone who worked in the food/industry for a brief period of time, it captures that atmosphere splendidly, in an immersive way. Incredibly accurate. Fantastic stuff.

#Podcast prep!! Going to be looking at Roberto Rossellini’s War Trilogy. Subscribe here and stay tuned: linktr.ee/holmesmovies... #podcastsky #filmsky

Slight stumble at the start hindered by some clunky exposition, but #MissionImpossible #TheFinalReckoning makes up for it with great action/stunts. Plus some worthy emotional narrative beats. Not perfect, but a satisfying finale nonetheless to a franchise that really has helped define action cinema.

When watching #MissionImpossible: Dead Reckoning, one can see the chink’s of this franchise’s armour are showing. It’s fun, the action & stunts are brilliant, but the slight repetitiveness of them, clunky expositional dialogue & odd pacing prevents the film reaching the same heights as Fallout.

Even though Rogue Nation is one of the #MissionImpossible films I’ve watched the most, I do consider Fallout to be the better film. A stellar & influential action picture. I feel it features Tom Cruise’s best performance as Ethan Hunt. This film does smartly deal with the morality of Ethan’s actions

#MissionImpossible: Rogue Nation continues on the momentum from Ghost Protocol. It excels with the action & stunts. It stands above similar films that often rely heavily on CGI. It’s absolutely entertaining, from start to finish. Team dynamic is strong again, also Rebecca Ferguson steals the film

For me, #MissionImpossible: Ghost Protocol is where the franchise finds its footing. They got the team dynamic right. The chemistry with all the actors is great. Their squabbling & banter keeps us invested in between all the death defying stunts. That Burj Khalifa scene still gets my pulse raising.

#MissionImpossible 3 is a good solid film for the most part. Tom Cruise & co were trying to find the franchise’s footing. A fine entry that gets them on the right track for the sequels. It does well in giving more depth to Ethan & making him vulnerable. Plus adding more substantial emotional stakes

Of course I had to watch Rogue One just after finishing Andor. The show very much elevates the film, gives it more depth. Andor transitions into the film seamlessly in the same way Rogue One does into A New Hope. The climax got me all emotional, particularly given the context of the show. #Andor

#Andor very much stuck the landing. Fantastic TV. It was a show I didn’t really think we needed when it was first announced. How wrong I was. It was excellent. Great & deep writing & storytelling. Tremendous direction & production values. The acting calibre presented in this show was astounding

#MissionImpossible 2 never fails to put a smile on my face. A big dumb, nut-so bombastic film that never needs to apologise for itself. Kind of a step down in some regards from the De Palma film, but John Woo’s Gun-Fu operatic directing style still makes for an entertaining & good time. #Filmsky

Love this

Anyone enjoying #Andor, really should see Tony Gilroy’s directorial debut Michael Clayton. One of my top favourites. Not just featuring what I think is George Clooney’s best performance (amazing Oscar winning performance from Tilda Swinton too), but it’s an excellent thriller. Fantastic screenplay.

Yes!! 🙌🏻

Brian De Palma was the right director choice to start the #MissionImpossible franchise. I don’t agree with anyone that says the first one doesn’t hold up. It certainly does. Such a smooth & slick film. An exhilarating & Hitchcockian piece of action cinema. Bonkers plot, but the film holds together.

Piotr Szulkin’s O-Bi, O-Ba: The End of Civilization is a nihilistic & dystopian day in the life of an individual trying to stay sane in a post-apocalyptic world. A fascinating but bleakly frightening science fiction film that is both quietly suspenseful & darkly comedic in a morbid kind of way.

#HeartEyes was very much my bag. Made me laugh a lot, Josh Ruben’s films just get me. Same with Werewolves Within. Funny, gory & sweet as well. A slasher in a romcom setting. With all the cliches like the meet cute, awkward first date & slowly falling love. That plus a few bloody kills #filmsky

Tony Todd makes a glorious appearance as William Bludworth for a final time in the new #FinalDestination. Watching him on screen again as this character was both awesome & bittersweet. I found it to be very moving. A real legend of the horror genre, may he continue to rest in peace. #horrorsky #RIP

#FinalDestinationBloodlines is the sequel for this franchise that I have been waiting for. It takes all the best elements, puts them in a blender & the result is a gory, suspenseful, fun time. The deaths are well thought. Good example of how to bring back a slightly dormant franchise & reinvent it.

Probably the best #FinalDestination made in a long while. That point at least. They finally got to it & made a good sequel with well developed characters & arcs. This sequel has characters you do care about. The 5th part is a real back to basics film, which does work in the franchises’s favour

My first #FinalDestination film in the cinema. For me, The Final Destination is a low point for the franchise. Every popular horror franchise has a weak film. The issue I have is you don’t care about any of the characters & it is quite by the numbers. Nothing new is introduced or done differently

Not the biggest fan of #FinalDestination 3, but it has grown on me. The rollercoaster sequence is gnarly & Mary Elizabeth Winstead carries this whole film. She’s great. They up the gore again, more guts & people getting smushed. Good filmmaking here, but the writing & characterisation is a bit weak

#FinalDestination 2 is where the franchise kind of rolls into silly & camp territory. It’s worth watching just for the deadly car crash pile up in the beginning. This sequel did start this trend of adding more blood & gore to this franchise, more than what was in the last film. It’s a worthy sequel.

Rewatching the #FinalDestination films before the new one. First one is a pretty solid, well written & acted horror film. Good start to the franchise, suspenseful & eerie. It doesn’t go into silly & crude territory like some of the sequels. The grounded nature of the death scenes are nicely handled.

There’s a moment from this 3rd batch of #Andor episodes which to me seemed like a callback/reference to the great and memorable La Marseillaise scene from Casablanca. #StarWars

Shit got real and hit very close to home in these recent, new three episodes of #Andor #StarWars
