Torsten Bell doesn’t realise that universality is much cheaper to administer Just add it to the state pension FGS What an utter mess Rachel Reeves has created

Neoliberalism is deeply ideological, anti-human & inhumane. It cannot acknowledge environmental degradation & climate change because that requires State Intervention & Regulation. Regrettably, it is also ‘undead’ because it favors the self-interest of the wealthy.  johnmenadue.com/post/2025/06...

DWP PIP appeals are now taking over a year - leaving disabled people in limbo There are currently 8,900 PIP appeals in progress - and more than half of these people will win their case before it even gets to a tribunal. The DWP is a menace. www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/...

Gaza death toll reaches 54,607, officials confirm - https://www.middleeasteye.net/live-blog/live-blog-update/gaza-death-toll-reaches-54607-officials-confirm

Do wonder when journalists will ask the right questions on macroeconomics. Perhaps do a little research into Keynes. Stop asking how it will be paid for. Start asking about ROI, forget GDP, think GINI We use all the wrong metrics

Tory legacy. Fire stations in England “falling apart”, Funding down by £1bn, call outs up by a fifth. Firefighter numbers down by a quarter in seven years, 11,000 full-time staff. Population increased but lack of investment in infrastructure, tax cuts for the rich. Readying for privatisation?

Nigel Farage says abortion laws are “utterly ludicrous.” MPs are watching. We have days to show them: the public backs abortion rights. Join me and sign the petition now! you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/de...

The DWP thrives on inhumanity and cruelty

Government should adopt Keynes: whatever we can do we can afford This approach could include a government job guarantee, and certainly should re-fund local councils to deliver what local communities want to see in their places and spaces

Ultimately, everything is local. Good constituency MP’s & Councillors connected to their communities understand this

Spot on: Government is complicated. Meeting needs is complicated. Reconciling conflicting aims is complicated.

Government spending is *always* a political choice Has absolutely *nothing* to do with availability of £, as the government tells to Bank of England to create the £ it wants to spend Taxpayers money is a useful myth, as is the Q how to pay for it

Starmer and Miliband’s £22bn Net Zero carbon capture plan sending lots of zeroes into the bank accounts of UK’s luckiest businessmen, as they buy 12 acre plot that the Teesside part is being built on for £12.43 (plus VAT). Details in latest @privateeyenews.bsky.social

This is absolutely correct. Every spending/investment decision of government is a political, not a fiscal choice We need a balanced economy

In 1970 the UK and Norway were roughly equal, almost no debt, and owned all their Public Services. Now the UK owns nothing and has £3tn of debt. While Norway still owns everything and has the equivilant of £10tn. That's how privatisation 'works'.

“Low-income households in Britain are now 27 per cent poorer than their equivalents in France and a staggering 60 per cent poorer than those in Ireland.” 🔥 www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2025...

By betraying his voters so comprehensively and so soon, Keir Starmer has done us a favour. He has given us 4 years to design the government we want. In this week's column I explain how it can be done. There's massive potential, but we need to start now. 🧵 www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I for one would be very pleased to see AI severely curtailed & heavily regulated

UK public purse to make £10bn loss from £45bn bailout of NatWest bank in 2008. Govt selling last of its shares, could have used it to fund SME/infrastructure investment. Boss who crashed the bank gets £600k a year pension. Bailouts for the City, benefit cuts for the poor.

I’m waiting for the penny to drop that a wealth tax is good. Not to pay for anything as tax doesn’t do that, (how? Well government always spends first, then taxes after) but to reduce inequality

Particularly when they simply do not understand that tax has a different function - to remove £ from the economy, reduce inequality, influence behaviour and validate currency - it doesn’t pay for anything.

Entirely avoidable error of judgement by Rachel Reeves The PM should have said don’t be so bloody stupid

Starmer's no big deal youtu.be/qTbgahcj3aU?... Starmer wants us to think he's doing big foreign policy deals. He isn't. He's playing in the sandpit of international relations, and nothing is really changing.

“We can’t blame people for voting Reform; the blame and responsibility lies on all of us who are on the left to present an alternative picture, and a much more powerful story that recognises how people have been screwed over by successive generations of politicians” 👊

Honestly @yvettecooper-mp.bsky.social don’t you know there are 165,000 vacancies across the sector Falling birth rate & demographics mean these workers are needed 🤦‍♀️

England’s water is appalling — and so is the politics keeping it privatised. Labour can’t win back trust and beat Reform whilst cosying up to the same profiteers who’ve bled our rivers dry. My latest in @gonuj.org: time to clean house. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

WTAF @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social is this one of your *donors*?

'To fight a Trumpesque future we should abandon the useless straight jacket of ‘Left vs Right’ and replace it with the more powerful, crystal-clear moral axis of right vs wrong.'

Do you want your legacy to be the SoS that continued to allow this to happen? @rthonwesstreeting.bsky.social

Take note @teamlabouruk.bsky.social

It’s pretty easy to deliver @teamlabouruk.bsky.social you’re just looking in the wrong direction

Freeports have already cost the public nearly £20bn - yet Labour want more of them? Freeports and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) made huge jobs promises that they've so far failed to deliver, and cost the taxpayer a fortune. www.thecanary.co/long-read/20...

Jonathan Reynolds clearly doesn’t know how government money works 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
