useful piece for people who might be wavering on Zohran. from the outside he seems like a smart guy who is willing to build alliances with more experienced folks like Lander, I think that is key

Every year that passes, I come to better appreciate just how traumatic members of the US elite find it to be yelled at by progressive young people. It is *vastly* more upsetting to them than being yelled at by reactionaries. They warp their entire identities & ideologies around it!

The claims that McIver, Padilla, and Lander were committing assault should make you question every other time LEOs claim assault or resisting arrest, if you weren’t already.

As a 52-year-old, I grew up with domestic right wing terrorist organizations threatening violence daily, and blowing up buildings and killing people periodically, throughout my whole political life: it was the anti-abortion movement.

this report from media matters is fucking wild. fox news has aired 424 segments about trans athletes since feb 5. the week democrats vetoed the GOP trans sports ban bill, they aired 59 segments. www.mediamatters.org/fox-news/fox...

!!! Like low key vibe fireworks. Laidback scintillation. This just gets better and better.

I need everybody to know that I call it Daah-zin in my head every single time. The letters are DAZN and you want me to call you duh-zone, gtfo.

I love seeing this for WoSo.

Hortman was a catholic who ensured children got fed and her killer was in a psycho church that demanded violent prayer and guess which one is getting the"Christian" coverage

GOP: Our budget will reduce the deficit CBO: It'll increase the deficit by $2.4 trillion GOP: But with greater growth, it'll pay for itself CBO: Accounting for growth it's $2.3 trillion GOP: ... CBO: Also, more debt raises interest rates, so the true effect is $2.8 trillion.

Also, Trump's attempts to kill federal library and archive funding is jeopardizing the jobs of even that small number of people.

Dems gave the GOP an assist to pass a key law that experts warn will allow cryptocurrency risks to infect the rest of the financial system. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/senate-...

Dark money ads target Kansas mayor after town pushed back against private prison www.thepitchkc.com/dark-money-a...

great thread from David that touches on one thing in particular that’s been bothering me: anti-choice violence has been running through the Christian right for 50 years. this isn’t new. it requires no novel explanation. any discussion that doesn’t center decades of killings/bombings is flat wrong.

Tulsi Gabbard while the rest of the Republicans are calling for a Regime Change War™

Having a bit of a hard time with the concept that if a guy in a police uniform who has a police vehicle shows up I should lock the doors and call 911, but if a guy in a ski mask with an hGH gut appears to be kidnapping my neighbor, I shouldn’t ask who he is if I don’t want federal charges.

kinda feels a tiny bit like the lander/mamdani cross-support is aggravating to news/cuomo types because it shows that acrimony isn't a necessary part of elections and brinksmanship is avoidable

so like i know brad lander is a candidate for mayor but maybe the headlines should focus on the fact they arrested the guy CURRENTLY IN CHARGE OF NEW YORK CITY’S FINANCES

if you’re a policymaker getting lapped—somehow once again—by Kathy Hochul in the backbone sweepstakes, you could probably do some introspection

After ruling the NIH grant cuts were illegal yesterday, Judge Young, a Reagan appointee on the bench since 1985, ended the hearing with a blistering 15-minute speech. I've cleaned up my notes — here are his remarks in full. 🧵

Can’t co-sign this hard enough. All of my woso work last year was reader supported through my Substack. My recurring work with MLS and STL Mag gives me some flexibility but for all of the money pouring into the sport the media space isn’t receiving the same level of support.

I started volunteering as an immigration court watcher after reading an article about Brad Lander doing it. So much respect to him and all the folks standing up to bear witness and get in the way.

The "Tacos Chotiner" tweet remains undefeated

Given the success of congestion pricing Cuomo really has no excuse not to be there by now.

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

For people calling what Brad Lander did today a stunt: (1) He does weekly shifts at immigration court - that's just who Brad is. (2) Even if it was a stunt, who cares? We want politicians to put their bodies on the line -- make a scene to draw attention to what Trump's admin is doing.

four of Brad Lander's political opponents praising him and speaking out in his defense shows that not only does this crew understand the stakes but also the incentive structure created for candidates by ranked choice voting is dope

All while pretending it’s about ‘government experience’ rather than ideology. We have an entire intellectual elite that is allergic to clearly stating what they think and providing evidence.

If New Yorkers are wondering who will fight back against Federal overreach, we have visible evidence today that Zohran Mamdani and Brad Lander are the candidates that you should rank 1 or 2 Lander literally resisted federal overreach and Mamdani showed up immediately to have his back Fuck Cuomo

Just days ago, Brad Lander called me to interpret for an Arabic-speaking asylee whose case was approved, yet ICE was still harassing him inside the building. Brad personally escorted him out to safety. He does this kind of work quietly, every day.

And the person who turned up to support him with no notice is the Muslim dude who have cross endorsed each other and who the msm has been going into overtime to cast him as antisemitic

felt compelled to look up ICE authority for warrantless arrests if I'm reading this correctly, the circumstances under which ICE can arrest a citizen are basically limited to 'I literally saw you commit a felony and you're about to escape and no one's gonna be able to get a warrant' this aint that

There are fewer than five people making a living as women's soccer reporters in the US. The entire industry runs on them, a dozen or so more people like me who have writing jobs that sometimes include woso, and everything else is done by freelancers or for free.

One of FIFA’s biggest mistakes (which isn’t surprising considering their inherent sexism) is not launching the women’s Club World Cup first. It’s actually desired and would be so well received, which would have laid the blueprint for the men and given FIFA proof of concept to sell.

got so bored i made a tumblr to stalk the woso scene on there and all i will say is it is a time (also thank you sonnett stan accounts)

again this does not have to be left to the voters but of course the senate did not even vote to censure or expel the eight senators who voted to reject an election on January 6

anyway, part of the reason that Trump bypasses the FBI background check process is that immediately before taking office, the FBI was investigating Gabbard for being on the Iranian payroll.

I feel like the conversation around Defund in New York is missing the point - The NYPD wasn't defunded, but the cops responded as thought it was, refusing to do their jobs and creating the appearance that they were was to the incurious. Here's the data from traffic enforcement:

If you want to know why anyone would shoot cluster munitions into a city, it’s to kill civilians, and that’s all.

I'm grateful for @davidgilbert.bsky.social and his clear reporting that absolutely debunks this disgusting false narrative. The Minnesota shooter Vance Boelter was an evangelical preacher, registered Republican, voted for Trump, and watched Alex Jones' Infowars. www.wired.com/story/psyop-...

It’s apparently now too controversial in the United States to say “racism is bad”
