If you think a retrograde bully and serial sex pest like Andrew Fuckup Cuomo is the best hope for the future of the Democratic Party, go ahead and load your pockets with stones and walk into the Hudson River.

Democratic leadership has been stuck for so long & the one person who might have unstuck it (Obama) made matters worse.

Enjoying my morning read. Malcolm Harris has seriously thought thru our options for creating an environmentally sustainable future.

Longtime listener, first time caller.

@andrewhartman.bsky.social’s new book just arrived, can’t wait to dig in on this lovely summer day!

fresh audio product: • Paolo Gerbaudo @paologerbaudo.bsky.social on the Chinese electric vehicle maker BYD’s rise • Andrew Hartman, author of Karl Marx in America, on the bearded one’s reception in the US www.leftbusinessobserver.com/Radio.html#S...

Ohhhhhh my god. There's literally a whole section in the TGS episode with @andrewhartman.bsky.social where we discuss the (over and over again proven) uselessness of Dems leaning into nationalism. Voters just don't buy it and they're looking for ACTUAL SOLUTIONS

American Marxism may be cyclical in nature, bounding from reform to reaction. But as Mathias Fuelling argues, it is more than the forces arrayed against it. There may be hope for us yet.

The US has never had a mass communist party with a viable influence on policy. A new history of American Marxism considers who we’ve got instead: the labor organizers, the theorists, and rogue economists.

“Hartman adheres to a basic schema: Marxism is a pillar of American political thought—not always as an explicit tradition but rather as the ghost in the machine—a powerful, often oppositional force influencing Americans of all political persuasions.”

Howard Zinn and RATM staying undefeated when it comes to teens learning about Marxism (shout-out to my history teacher dad who assigned Zinn's A People's History of the United States to his class every summer, and didn't complain when I played Rage too loud in my room!)

It’s organized labor, not the Democratic Party, that is stepping up to fight against government overreach. This is not a surprise, labor is where the movement for our collective liberation will come from. Workers will lead the way. Join a union.

In conversation with Mogens Lykketoft, former leader of Danish Social Democrats, & Niels Bjerre-Poulsen, Denmark's US explainer--about the future of the American left. At the Arbejdermuseet, or the Workers Museum in Copenhagen, located in the Workers' Assembly Hall, the oldest in Europe.

"A specter in the American machine." Today's book pick from Damn History, a free monthly newsletter for readers/writers of #popularhistory. Congrats to author @andrewhartman.bsky.social & @uchicagopress.bsky.social! Read/subscribe to Damn History: damn-history-16d93f.beehiiv.com/subscribe

Congrats to @andrewhartman.bsky.social, and also good luck because I am still getting hate mail for writing six years ago (accurately!) that Abe Lincoln exchanged a couple letters with Marx and probably read Marx’s columns in his party’s newspaper. Baseball Crank is still mad about it.

Today’s my younger son’s high school graduation, but through proud Dad tears I’m still sharing my 227th #ScholarSunday thread of public scholarly writing & work, podcast episodes, new books from the last week. “Karl Marx in America” adroitly historicizes the twists and turns of Marxist thought in America since the mid-19th century.
