Magnificent six-tern day in beautiful Northumberland. The female American Black performed superbly at Long Nanny, while Roseate Terns showed well in perfect evening light on Cocquet Island. Little, Arctic, Common and Sandwich as well on a day to remember amid wonderful scenery #ukbirding

Weybourne reedbed & surrounding environs is in full-on Patagonia Rest-stop mode at the moment. Another two super birds are in the area at the moment ~ a singing 2cy/1st summer Common Rosefinch & also a singing Marsh Warbler. Nice evening out of TG04 again! @linnetincley.bsky.social #NorfolkBirding

Just found an absolutely stonking male Collared Flycatcher at Creachan, a species I've been dreaming of finding for years! This is the first for Barra and the third for the Outer Hebrides. #BirdingScotland #RareBirdsUK

Visited Woolbeding Common watchpoint in West Sussex this morning and saw 3 Honey Buzzards displaying on 8 different occasions between 7.45-10am. Excellent scope views in warm sunshine in an idyllic setting. Is there a better site anywhere in the UK at which to encounter these birds? #ukbirding

Couldn't resist a trip to Hampshire to pay homage to the Titchfield Haven Hudsonian Godwit. Four hours watching this stunning bird still didn't feel long enough. So pleasing to see a healthy Black-headed Gull colony at this excellent reserve on the Solent #ukbirding

Hudsonian Godwit showing well from Meon Shore hide at Titchfield Haven at 9.15am. Super bird! #ukbirding

Hudsonian Godwit still early morning at Titchfield Haven viewed distantly from Cliff Road. Flew off with Black-tailed Godwit flock at 8am and yet to return. Reserve about to open - waiting to see if bird returns #ukbirding

Excellent close-up views of an etheareal Nightjar at a traditional site in the Forest of Dean last night. Churring, wing-clapping, calling, the works! A second bird heard nearby. I'll be back later in the season for more . . . #ukbirding

Iberian Wagtail (Probable, Male)- Traeth Penial, Llanfwrog, Anglesey 18/05/25. Another excellent find by @keelebirder.bsky.social White throat, strong super behind eye, narrower in front, dark lores, uniform dark ear coverts, almost absence of white in lower eye ring. Must be an excellent candidate.

Nice to find a Hudsonian Godwit at Titchfield Haven this morning.Awful light but top bird 👍

75+ Red Kites were counted passing Lands End today (15th May), all headed eastwards. Today marks the second notable phase of the Spring. Numbers should increase over the next few days. The very best location to watch big numbers of Red Kite is the Lands End area. The “funnel” stops here.

10 years of daily walks through Northbay plantation thinking one day this will produce a mega, well, today is that day! Found an Eastern Bonelli's Warbler singing and chipping away in the sunny glade at the far end of the pathway. First record for Barra. #BirdingScotland

The two ♂ Red-footed Falcon together at Gwynver. One is actually a two foot in front, hence one out of focus. So I took two shots. The moulted central tail feathers and retained flight feathers age them as 1st summer (eg, second cal yr). Of all six I’ve seen, all are same age. #cornwallbirding

Two great rares in Shetland yesterday: Britain's 4th Savannah Sparrow from Dave Cooper in Unst, and a spring Oriental Turtle Dove in the Ness, courtesy of @hughharrop.bsky.social and Paul Harvey #BirdingScotland @rarebirder.bsky.social @birdguides.bsky.social

Lengthy write up of the candidate 3cy Baltic Gull + other local finds in latest blog post. Lots of thoughts on moult and plenty of non-gull photos as well #ukbirding tmbirding.blogspot.com/2025/05/two-...

Couldn't resist posting another of the Savannah Sparrow from Unst today. I believe it's only the 4th British record! #YellBirding #Shetland #RareBirdAlertUk #Birdguides

Savannah Sparrow showing very well at Skaw on Unst to a 'crowd' of 3 appreciative birders. Another amazing find by Dave Cooper. #YellBirding #RareBirdsUK #Shetland #Birdguides

Unst scores the only mega of the year so far. Photo by Dave Cooper.

In the South East on family business and took time out for a sea watch at Dungeness. Was rewarded with fantastic views of a pale phase Pomarine Skua close in, heading east. Awesome beast! I then encountered Turtle Dove and Nightingale at a picturesque site near Lydd #ukbirding

BLACK STORK north 1455 New for the island! Photo credit @ewanturner.bsky.social

RSPB Ouse fen this morning. Excellent views of the Great reed warbler, especially from the river's north bank. Plus bearded tit, sedge warblers and bitterns. What a lovely reserve! @chrisdipperboyd.bsky.social #birds #ukbirds

10 years ago today, an amused reception committee was waiting for me at @portlandbirdobs.bsky.social , watching me arrive sweaty from Top Fields before flinging myself to Norfolk for a gripback I never expected to get, and certainly not so quickly: birdingtales.blogspot.com/2020/05/citr...

In between enjoying superb views of the singing White-spotted Bluethroat at Slimbridge this week, I've spent time introducing the next generation to the wildlife of the Severn estuary aka 'welly boot land'. Lyra was suitably impressed! #ukbirding

Was hoping for Garganey on my check of breeding wetland birds in West Tiree today but was surprised to find this un-ringed drake Wood Duck instead @birdguides.bsky.social @patchbirding.bsky.social #BirdingScotland

So pleased to see a thriving colony of Sand Martin at Seaton Marshes this week. Could have sat and watched their comings and goings for hours. The Black-winged Stilt pair were seen mating and prospecting a nest site at this superb Devon reserve, which provided an enjoyable day's birding #ukbirding

It's been a great comfort to be back in the field after a tough few weeks for my family. Have loved seeing Broad-Billed Sandpiper, American Golden Plover, Temminck's Stint, Red-footed Falcon, Great Reed Warbler, Spotted Sandpiper, Purple Heron, Black-winged Stilt and Dotterel in the south #ukbirding

Ditched the patch for Ham Wall/Shapwick Heath today - Red-footed Falcon, Purple Heron (eventually!), Glossy Ibis, Osprey, drake Garganey, 2 bugling Crane, 3 Red Kite, 30+ Hobby, 2 Cuckoo, 8 Cattle Egret, a Garden Warbler singing in seemingly every bush... So so so good! #ukbirding

Purple Heron flew over Meare Heath at 6.15am and headed off high towards Walton Heath on the other side of the road. Brief but exhilarating and third time lucky for me with this bird #ukbirding

The Spotted Sandpiper at Grafham Waters, and Great Reed Warbler at Ouse Fen. #ukbirds #UKwildlife #UKbirding

I have always felt Dotterel are best viewed in an upland setting, and Cwm Cadlan in the Brecon Beacons is about as good as it gets outside of Scotland. A trip of four birds favouring the limestone pavement gave immense satisfaction to a crowd of two! #ukbirding

Warmed up for today's Somerset v Essex cricket at Taunton by sitting beneath the Quantock broadleaf and waiting for the Wood Warblers to come to me. Three singing males encountered as well as a pair pursuing one another through the trees. Magic! Thanks @julianthomas19.bsky.social for gen #ukbirding

Back to the "Buston Links" Duck this morning and a bit of research. The russet tones, dark forehead spot, lack of dark eyeline, attenuated back end, diffuse loral spot and heavy spatulate bill to my eyes are pointing toward Cinnamon Teal. (So that's a first for Britain then)! #NEbirding

4 Dotterel (2F&2M). Great find by @markhipkin.bsky.social local at Cwm Cadlan 30.04.25 #birdingwales #birds
