ICE dressed up like utility workers who offer "free estimates" if invited inside. Neighbor recorded the ICE goons and intervened, just before a young boy let them into his home. Tucson Electric Power was not told ICE agents would be impersonating their utility workers as part of the ICE raid.

A spontaneous Visual Assembly by local artists and activists took place in NYC It didn’t last long. Security interrupted, and the drawings were washed away. But the moment showed how little it takes to begin: just a bit of space, a few people & some chalk davidgraeber.institute/how-to-do-yo...

At some point, our society will need to stop ignoring this injustice.

Americans are taking to the streets and showing up in US cities by the thousands to protest a plethora of President Donald Trump’s second-term policies—from trans rights to travel bans from foreign nations and deportation policies. This is a WIRED guide on how to best protest safely.

i think it’s important to remember that the erosion of empathy and community in this society has been purposefully part of the christian nationalist project (to erode trust in both other people and government services to make room for the rollback of those services and the rise of authoritarianism)

South Park residents of San Diego, California, confront Trump’s ICE agents after they stormed a local Italian restaurant to detain staff. This is how fascism is resisted. Courageous citizens standing their ground against regime thugs sent to intimidate them. More of this, America!

SAVE COSMIC SCIENCE FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS! I wrote about the current astronomy/particle physics/cosmology 🔭 ⚛️🧪 funding catastrophe in context of all of the other ongoing catastrophes, including what we can do to save our science. h/t to @skylargrayson.bsky.social for posting the image.

A reminder that “America First” is a Ku Klux Klan slogan.

I always tell up-and-coming novelists to use Locus to make sure they're up on the latest SFF news -- deals and deliveries, which agents are worth your time, forthcoming blockbusters, etc. Essential for writers and anyone else who needs to know. Check out their fundraiser and donate if you can!

Authoritarian leaders often engage in "pardon sprees" not out of mercy—but as a deliberate tool to consolidate power, reward loyalty, punish enemies, and erode public trust in democratic systems. These patterns have repeated throughout history across different countries and regimes. (1/16)

Suciu posts a pic of his filmer/bud, Justin Albert, with Jacob Elliott Harris in London. Are we finally getting the Suciu/Tom Knox UK showdown we’ve been waiting for? Tagline: “This year battle lines are being filmed…in the streets”

This is a great thread outlining what happened with Unbound, who published the first two Effin' Birds books, which they then sublicensed to a US publisher — that means they collected my US royalties, took a cut, and passed the rest to me. They owe me as much as I made in a year at my old day job.
