Had a quick chat with my neighbor a couple of hours ago... Me: I bet you $10 he invokes the Insurrection Act within the next 2 days. Neighbor: I bet he nationalizes StarLink and SpaceX. Me: Why not both?

Should I have left the US 2 weeks ago?

Yes. “People are doing things. You will meet them when YOU start doing things.” Lots of information and resources in this one. open.substack.com/pub/sherrily...

The important difference between a committed nazi and someone who just likes to troll people by acting like a Nazi is that there is none.

There’s something to be said about how Americans can only conceptualize of bad things as Nazi/Soviet and how that’s just made them completely incapable of placing them into a true historical and political context

I read this every year in honor of Dr King letterfromjail.com

Had a dream last night in which i was successfully breaking queer teens out of detention.

Anita Bryant, pitchwoman who crusaded against gay rights, dies at 84 Ding dong the witch is dead!

Some just asked if my dog is a pug. The dog in question:

Every fucking time.

It’s true that medieval people were very ignorant compared to us today. For instance, they would panic over mysterious apparitions in the sky, or believe that a strongman leader was blessed by God.

I had polio when i was 9. I was taken from my parents & placed in a Hospital for contageous diseases- the polio ward. I would see them once a week - thru the glass window at the end of my ward. I could not walk. It was terrifying. Kids died. Iron lungs were awful. Dont let RFK Jr ban the vaccine

Writing is thinking. It’s not a part of the process that can be skipped; it’s the entire point.

“Scientists don’t know everything and have sometimes been wrong before” Does not mean “random nonsense you just thought of is as likely to be correct as something overwhelmingly endorsed by experts and supported by evidence and should be treated with as much respect.”

Damn and now Drake is going to have to pay a 25 percent tariff on that beef?

This is genuinely great from Gessen if only because it takes something pretty basic about anti-trans politics (it's part of a broader reproductive regime akin to the eugenics of fascist cults) and explains it to an audience still convinced this has anything to do with fairness in women's sports

Who could have predicted that a Democratic loss would push them even farther to the right, instead of to the left, which a lot of folks insisted would happen?

My dog is thrilled that there's a crew working on the house across the street. He nibbles on his kibble and then runs over to the window to watch. Dinner and a floor show!

"Focus on the things that matter." PUSHING BACK AGAINST ATTEMPTS TO DRIVE TRANS PEOPLE AND ESPECIALLY TRANS WOMEN FROM PUBLIC LIFE MATTERS. FUCK YOU.

the way that Nancy Mace is sexually harassing her trans colleague as well as everyone else she works with by making them listen to her perverted unsolicited thoughts about genitals all day long...... what other workplace on earth would allow that

Old enough to know that silence = death and capitulation won't save yoi

I think a lot about what @nanjala.bsky.social said once about oligarchy and threats to freedom: One way to stay free and resist authoritarianism is “resisting the narratives of inevitability”. We are being told to accept exploitative AI, because our tech overlords say so. We don’t have to.

I’m going to say something historians rarely say. We haven’t been here before. We haven’t had a near-authoritarian takeover of our government. Admittedly, we don’t know what comes next. There’s a wide array of options. But know that in the US, this is new ground. And none of this is normal.

Thinking of creating some snarky academic starter packs like: Academics who think their ideas are WAY more important than they actually are Academics who peaked a while ago Academics whose questions are more like comments Academics who always go over their allotted time

stares in gender studies professor for 20 years

The idea that you *must* coexist with and listen to people who are cruel, unjust, and just plain unpleasant to be around is the logic of abusers, by the way

I'd say anyone who wants to argue about trans people rather than the more basic questions surrounding Harris' campaign ... probably just wanted to argue about trans people anyway.
