When I tell you Los Angeles is an occupied city/county, this is what I mean… Yesterday, ICE agents showed up to a regular Saturday swap meet with armed Marines and a military helicopter overhead, like it’s a fucking war zone.

Right-wing violence yesterday: 🔫2 dead in Minnesota. 🎯Mass shooting at march in Utah. 🚗Car attacks at 2 protests. 🚔Police violence at multiple rallies. Viral misinfo + conspiracies - more concerned about policing protests - spread about far-Right groups going "undercover" downplayed real threats.

THREAD. NBC News has just published one of the strangest articles of our authoritarian moment. It has identified the greatest threat to our way of life: it's not fascist state kidnappings or far-right violence, it's a twitter account posting some "slights" against the cops in Los Angeles.

THREAD: The assassinations in Minnesota highlight a dirty secret hardly ever mentioned in the news: U.S. has 1.1 million private police officers. There is an unprecedented footprint of privately organized violence that is doing all sorts of things most people have no idea about.

I learned of a group of parents and educators yesterday who have been building an Abolition + Education Justice Resource Hub together. They are launching their resource on 6/19 from 3 to 5 pm at FSUMC People's Church on 111th Street. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F... - they are giving away free books

You can always count on The New York Times to minimize the scale and impact of protest. Yesterday's 2000+ No Kings actions smashed records for the most demonstrations in a single day. So the Times decided to publish a horseshit map of just a handful of "confirmed locations." We're not fooled.

We and our news media have lost alarm. This litany of political violence and intimidation surrenders to it as a trend: "not really so surprising," an "inescapable reality." Like School Shootings, Political Violence Is Becoming Almost Routine www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/u...

Vance Boelter was an anti-transgender Christian Nationalist who delivered anti-queer sermons in the DRC, in case anyone was confused as to his political slant.

MSNBC reporter in gas mask in Los Angeles: I think it was Sheriffs deploying CS gas, tear gas, pepper spray, and flash bang grenades in large numbers. Mounted units pushing against protesters.., every single gathering I saw today was 100% peaceful

This is dope show up

Walz announces that Rep. Melissa Hortman is dead as a result of a "politically motivated assassination"

Fuck fuck fuck. What have I been saying about Carney's surveillance bill? Mark Carney has to go, like yesterday.

Scoop: Threat intelligence reports obtained by WIRED and @propertyofthepeople.org show military and state-run fusion centers are tracking civilian-made ICE encounter maps, while others distribute "threat" alerts about tomorrow's "No Kings" protests. By me @wired.com (free to read):

Washington DC! What's up? I heard something about a Trump Taco, so I decided to stop by.

I think that the MSM is terrified of being targeted by the Right. It shows in their coverage. They aren't scared of the Lefts and that too shows in their coverage.

We have entered the "The police is saying that if the police is at your door you are not safe call the police immediately" stage of making America great again

Good morning, I am at the ghost town that is the Army Birthday Celebration, excited to experience what promises to be an incredibly stupid day The Army Strength Competition is about to begin Let's do this 🧵

Fucking hell: “Minnesota state senator John Hoffman in Champlin and Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park were reportedly shot in their homes by a gunman impersonating a police officer.”

🚨 MINNESOTA: “state senator John Hoffman and state representative Melissa Hortman (both Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party) shot in their homes by a gunman impersonating a police officer… A manhunt is currently underway…” kstp.com/kstp-news/to...

Megabill would cost poorest households $1,600 a year, boost richest by $12K, according to Congress’ nonpartisan scorekeeper.

The federal government is telling you they cannot afford to house you, feed you, educate you or heal you — but that they do have enough resources and scale to criminalize, assault, deport and incarcerate your neighbors simply going to work or taking their kids to graduation.

I'm pouring over the details of the reconciliation bill and its potentially apocalyptic effects on higher education for a short piece - it really is a five alarm fire. They're going to overhaul the student loan infrastructure as a means of anti-intellectual, resegregationist social engineering.

"DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin dismissed any photo evidence of the incident in the parking lot, saying any photos were from a criminal arrest earlier this year. However, McLaughlin’s statement appears to have been copied and pasted from a different press inquiry."

I actually don't think it's accurate to say 'Trump isn't releasing Mahmoud even though the court said he had to' Trump isn't releasing Mahmoud *because the court *didn't actually say he had to The judge could & should have done so, but didn't I'll explain storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The police are not going to save you from fascism and anyone telling you they are working with police are a threat as they are working with fascists actively doing violence against anyone speaking out If you work with police in a fascist police state you are a fascist. Full stop.

Importantly, Buddhist practice is not about achieving a future state of awakening, as though it were a distant goal. Awakening is already present within us — not as an idea, but as a capacity for direct knowing. Goodnight everyone sleep tight.

pls read this chapter, especially now! 💙📚 "From block-letter street murals to state-sanctioned awards that exceptionalize individual activists as “heroes” while death-making policies remain unchanged, we must reject the empty PR maneuvers of those who sustain the oppressions we struggle against."

Las Vegas police immediately arrest two livestreamers when one of them insults an officer after an anti-ICE protest ("honor your oath, bitch"). "You need to learn there's rules: don't run your mouth at me."

Yelling “what’s your name???” at people getting arrested for a violation while surrounded by cameras is a great way to dox them.

“US Regime Deploys Troops, Arrests Citizens, and Detains Opposition Amid Mass Pro-Democracy Protests” What if we wrote about events in Trump’s America in the way that Western media describe African and Middle Eastern countries? Brilliant stuff, from @premthakker.bsky.social

And one further point on this: the reason I think Bluesky and the underlying ATprotocol are actually so important is that they are fundamentally set up to allow people to create their own communities and their own culture, without demanding that a company decide it for them.

ICE has been arresting immigrants and asylum seekers after their cases have been dismissed by judges in El Paso. This has left their loved ones in dismay and scared. My story about the expanding crackdown in El Paso.

The group organizing Trump's big parade and America's 250th anniversary celebration is making the events into campaign campaign-like rallies and hiring lot of Trump cronies, including people who profited by staging the January 6 Ellipse rally. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

SCOOP: Trump's military parade is being organized by some of the same MAGA political operatives who organized the rally that preceded the January 6 riot. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

‘No Kings’ Protest Scheduled at Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick’s Langhorne Office on Saturday | The event is part of a nationwide mass mobilization of protestors who object to the Trump Admin's billionaire-first agenda, its increasing authoritarianism & the dangerous militarization of civil society.

ICE is using sobriety checkpoints to tear apart families. www.newschannel5.com/news/newscha...

My latest scoop: ICE has rescinded its accountability policy for warrantless arrests, giving agents “free license to make any arrest,” per one lawyer representing victims. It follows @theguardian.com exclusive that the agency was told to “push the envelope” to meet Trump’s 3k arrest quota.

Thanks to @lukeoneil47.bsky.social for letting me throw some words into Welcome To Hell World about the first few days of large scale detainments and protests in Los Angeles. www.welcometohellworld.com/it-is-happen...

The oppression of the entire Latino community of Los Angeles right now is difficult to convey. Normally vibrant local retail areas of East LA and SELA look like ghost towns this week. People are afraid to leave their homes. Parents afraid to go to work. It's US citizens too. Anyone with brown skin

Wow. There is nothing wrong with having a long, dark beard, but this was absolutely doctored to play into stereotypes. Shame on them.

1. In an extraordinary public flogging, the Florida State Board of Education repeatedly threatened a school superintendent with criminal prosecution unless he removed a Judy Blume book from all library shelves. One member called the district librarians "child abusers."

Update on something from earlier in the administration: Federal agencies are learning one by one via their leadership that they no longer have to submit the "5 bullets" emails explaining what they accomplished each week that were mandated by OPM/DOGE. As far as I know, no human has read any of them.

The Israeli military killed dozens of Palestinians in Gaza last night, including 3 paramedics, a journalist, and children. Israel cannot keep committing war crimes with impunity– it must face global sanctions immediately.
