As an educator, I have some notes 🧵

Alberta as we know it today simply would not exist without the millions of immigrants and refugees who built it, who loved it, and who were proud to call it home - including my grandparents and my mum. This bitter xenophobia is as unAlbertan as it’s possible to be. I’m ashamed. I’m disgusted.

#DanielleSmith promised: “No Albertan will ever have to pay out of pocket… No exceptions.” And she wouldn’t delist services. Then she delisted seniors’ eye exams — and said most Albertans will have to pay for COVID vaccines. She flipped on her health guarantee. SURPRIZE #ableg #abhealth #abpoli

It took 21 months but, this morning I received the results of the Alberta government's pension plan engagement survey: *63% opposed to Alberta Pension Plan (APP) *10% pro-APP *12% undecided/unsure *15% other responses edmontonjournal.com/news/politic... #ableg #abpoli

Alberta, share this with everyone. The UCPs decision to limit covid vaccines by making people pay for them is not good public health policy, ethical or founded in scientific evidence. They should be encouraging widespread vaccination across populations and covering it.

Russia was kicked out of the G8 because it invaded Ukraine. So because of a war. Also, it was Obama and Harper.

Russia was kicked out of the G8 in March 2014 exactly BECAUSE it launched its war in Ukraine by invading and forcibly annexing Crimea.

Also, LaGrange is lying about the $110 per vaccine cost. This study, found with a five-second Google search, estimates the Canadian price at $43 Cdn. The study provides a cost-benefit analysis that shows it makes economic sense for govts to pay for vaccines. www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1...

The Government of Alberta will begin charging Albertans who don't fall into certain vulnerable categories for the Covid-19 vaccine, citing an American CDC reported cost of $110 per dose (why the GOA didn't use the Alberta purchase price is unknown). A thread:🧵

BEYOND LOCAL: EDITORIAL: Rural postal service must remain government priority

“Danielle Smith & four cabinet ministers presided over a boisterous “coal town hall” in Fort Macleod Wednesday… About 500 severely normal Albertans, many as pissed as summer hornets, filled the hall to the brim. Ranchers. Irrigators. Landowners. Hikers. Moms. Water drinkers. Conservationists.”

Anyone in my Higher-Ed network know of any opportunities?

The National Post is significantly editing Canadian Press copy, without notifying the reader, to push a Zionist perspective and to portray Palestinians as terrorists. It's completely unethical and a breach of basic journalism standards. A new low for The National Post.

Reposting for my American academics to share. Kingston is a beautiful town and Queen's is a solid institution. It is also handily near(ish) the Toronto area.

🤣

Memo to Alberta's federalists and anti-separatists: stop accepting Danielle Smith's premise that the province has been screwed over by Ottawa. It's time for more facts and fewer feelings. #cdnpoli #abpoli www.nationalobserver.com/2025/05/29/o...

By request — all 8 myth-busting graphics in one post. This series has taken off — thank you for the shares, thoughtful feedback, and meaningful conversations. We created these to counter the rise of separatist talking points and misinformation spreading here in Alberta #abpoli #ableg #GiveVoiceAB

Too old for this one? Probably. But if you know a killer Canadian songwriter aged 21 or under, tell them to go snag $5,000 from SOCAN’s Young Canadian Songwriter Award. You can’t win it, but you can be the cool mentor who sends the link. zurl.co/MK6ua

While people are posting outrage over Pierre Poilievre billing the Canadian taxpayer around $8.9 million just for his living expenses in 2024, I think it's more effective to point out that this equates to over $24,000 per day. Per. Day. $24,000. Every single day, including weekends.

Incoming 🧵: I've been hyperfocused on the equalization payment topic lately. So let’s talk about it. Specifically, how Alberta’s wealthiest people convinced the rest of us to be mad about a system that barely affects us…but mildly inconveniences them. And how they’d really rather keep that cash.

Three things made the US a rich and powerful nation: the rule of law, its science & innovation system, and openness to foreign talent. Remarkable how Trump has taken a sledgehammer to all three. No enemy of this country could do more.

A common clapback from measles minimizers is that, "Measles was no big deal when I was a kid. Everyone had it. So why are you so panicky now?" Let's break it down with some national Canadian data... Thread [1/6]

Arlene has some thoughts on “Smith”. All pretty bang on. 👏👏👏 #Abpoli (Via LinkedIn)

While the Premier is fanning the flames of separatism to score political points with her base, let's take a look at 10 of things she is trying to distract Albertans from. #ableg Let's do this as a thread since we can't cover it all in one post🧵

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

Thread, peeps. Be aware and be forewarned

Yup!

After her address yesterday, I wrote a letter to the premier without swear words. It took every ounce of reserve from the very pit of my sickened stomach. Perhaps you could share your thoughts with her too.

Re. "Carney is a banker" Mark Carney is not a banker. He is an economist (BA, MS, PhD) who was the Governor of 2 central banks: Canada and the UK. These are not commercial banks, they oversee the country's monetary policy, including setting interest rates and modulating the money supply.

🇨🇦Trevor Doerksen makes an excellent point: #BattleRiverCrowfoot

🇨🇦 Hey Canada — just so you know… The majority of us in Alberta are not with #DanielleSmith ’s separatist games. We are proudly with Team Canada — and we’re standing up to protect it. Don’t let her speak for all of us. She doesn’t. #ableg #abpoli #cdnpoli #TeamCanada #ElbowsUp
