After getting blanked in Game 2, that Game 1 explosion looks more like a blip than a breakout for the Stars. So Mikko Rantanen might just have to do this all himself. Again. My column from Dallas: www.nytimes.com/athletic/637...

On the heels of Monday's episode about different 2C options for the Habs, @arponbasu.bsky.social & @magodin.bsky.social look at other roster spots that might need fixing, and wonder to which extent outside solutions are needed. 📺 www.youtube.com/watch?v=8grm... 🎧 podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/t...

Morris, an alligator who appeared in numerous films and television shows, most notably in the movie “Happy Gilmore,” died on Monday. He was at least 80.

Fun discussion today as @arponbasu.bsky.social and @magodin.bsky.social consider many candidates the Canadiens could look at to bolster their centre line. Subscribe at basuandgodin.com to get the full Monday episodes. Excerpt : 📺 www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSW3... 🎧 podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/t...

Vegas has been one and done in the Edmonton zone basically all night while Edmonton is clinically making their way into the Vegas zone and setting up colonies. This is surgical.

Big credit to William Karlsson for winding that one up and going for it instead of just playing for overtime.

Vegas-Edmonton must go on forever.

Lines for the Caps in Game 2. Aliaksei Protas moves up to the top line: Ovechkin-Strome-Protas McMichael-Dubois-Wilson Mangiapane-Eller-Raddysh Duhaime-Dowd-Beauvillier Chychrun-Carlson Sandin-Roy Alexeyev-TvR

Nick Suzuki soigne toujours des blessures et ne rejoindra pas le Canada pour le Championnat du monde. Nick Suzuki is still nursing injuries and won't be joining Team Canada at the World Championship.

For the Canes, the 93rd time was the charm. Good lord. Takeaways from Washington — www.nytimes.com/athletic/633...

Caps got a few chances. Hurricanes got a few more.

The Canadiens took a big step by exposing their young players to a playoff environment, some of them for the first time. But from a big picture point of view, they are still largely in the same place, with an imperfect young lineup, and questions. Lots of questions. www.nytimes.com/athletic/633...

Jake Oettinger on Colorado: "I have a hard time believing there's any team that's that much better than Colorado out there left.”

Nick Suzuki seemed to send a message to management Friday, that he doesn’t want to take a step back next season as the Canadiens may get younger. That will take veteran additions. But what seems clear right now, and what is most important, is there is a core in place www.nytimes.com/athletic/633...

Catching up, but Alexandre Carrier said he hurt his ankle on the Alex Ovechkin hit and that's what he was battling in Game 5. The Tom Wilson hit did not result in a head injury. (1/2)

Sam Montembeault said he tore two of his three groin muscles in a Ryan Leonard shot just before the first TV timeout of the second period. Said he thought he could play through it, but he allowed the Chychrun goal “because of that” so he pulled himself. Could have played in 2nd round.

Nick Suzuki says he’s been invited to play for Team Canada at worlds but needs to be cleared physically by the Canadiens. Says he was “pretty banged up” down the stretch and into playoffs.

According to multiple reporters on the scene back in Winnipeg, Mark Scheifele will not travel to St. Louis for Game 6. Mitch Clinton and Ken Wiebe each tweeted this from Scott Arniel's preflight media. (I'm writing to you from Minneapolis on my way to St. Louis.)

David Savard, who just played his final NHL game, getting hugs from all his teammates.

Brandon Duhaime into an empty net and that will do it, the Canadiens season ends tonight.

Alexandre Carrier has been excellent tonight.

Suzuki and Evans have swapped spots, interesting attempt to generate something at 5v5 from St. Louis

Emil Heineman banks one in off Logan Thompson's glove. 3-1 Caps. Stay tuned...

Tom Wilson converts on the power play and it is 3-0 Caps late in the second period.

Jakub Dobeš is providing what the Canadiens needed so far.

Christian Dvorak lost one faceoff in the first period (won 3) and it was this one.

Jakub Dobeš absolutely robs Tom Wilson to keep it 2-0

Dubois with a great pass to Chychrun, who had slipped behind Caufield, and it's 2-0 Caps on four shots on goal.

Alex Ovechkin off an o-zone draw hammers one past Jakub Dobeš, 1-0 Caps. That one stings for the Canadiens, who had been carrying much of the play.

Ivan Demidov seals Pierre-Luc Dubois pretty effectively on a board battle, as they go back to the bench long afterwards, Dubois drops Demidov. That is a dumb penalty.

Pretty sloppy start for the Caps, Canadiens unable to take advantage with a goal. TV timeout comes at perfect time for the home team.

Three great plays off the puck on the same shift for Slafkovský

Carrier officially in for Canadiens.

Alexandre Carrier takes the ice with the Canadiens for warmup in Washington.

Martin St. Louis says Sam Montembeault is not in Washington and Jakub Dobeš is starting in goal. Alexandre Carrier is among “a couple” of guys that are game time decision.

Martin St. Louis says there is no one being called up to join the team in Washington. Laval is also playing their first game of the playoffs tomorrow night in Cleveland. He said he wasn’t sure whether Montembeault was making the trip or not. Carrier should be traveling. Laine is day to day.

Canadiens practice is starting and Carrier, Savard, Gallagher, Anderson and Montembeault are missing.
