I was going to share this on Instagram but their photo-picker is unusably bad (it doesn't work with Google Photos with cloud backup or sharing multiple photos into the app). I'm slightly in awe of how simultaneously big Meta is and how bad its apps are. I wouldn't have thought it possible!

Had the huge pleasure of attending a seminar last week on Ecstatic Writing a UChicago. Congrats to @kjtrujillo.bsky.social for organizing such excellent talks and discussions, including his on melisma and Whitney Houston & @meakoopa.bsky.social's on Michaelangelo's wild Last Judgment and Dayspring 💖

Packed, great book launch at @littleghostsbooks.bsky.social for @daviddemchuk.com's and @corinneleighclark.bsky.social's Clark's new novel The Butcher's Daughter. It's an incredible, rich, creepy Victorian story (and a beautiful book)—highly recommended!

Such a beautiful day to sit outside with nice food and a good book

Basic question: isn't the Library of Congress...of Congress? Why would the executive branch have the right to fire the Librarian? (I realize law doesn't matter to the Trump government, and then Democrats don't seem to be contesting it on those grounds, but still.)

Every trip back from the United States I lay out my haul like I've gone pillaging for treasure. Brought back a respectable haul from Chicago!

The "abolish ICE" argument getting so brutally, viciously clarified as obvious and true is good cause for looking at other "want a pony" political demands that are obviously correct but dismissed for, basically, "being annoying to think about"

we finally have a Chicago Guy for pope

The bells at the University of Chicago are going off, which must be for the new Pope

gotta be the first pope who conceivably has tried malort

It’s a month out, but this June our main feed episodes are going to be on the incredible Avengers Academy by @meakoopa.bsky.social 6/9 6/16 6/23 #comicsky and there are certainly enough mutants in that book to count it as #xspoilers

Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.

I learned about the fight for time off from a Chicago musical theatre (RIP Underscore), who mounted a really excellent new musical some years back about the Haymarket massacre in Chicago and the fight for workers rights: open.spotify.com/album/66HDp0...

Did you know the “weekend” and working only 8 hours per day used to be considered a radical, liberal idea? 139 years ago today, in Bay View, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 7 workers (including a 13 yo) lost their lives to advance this revolutionary idea. A 🧵

10 years ago @sethzenz.bsky.social sold me his Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes collections, which promptly disappeared in the chaos of his move overseas. A month ago, these lost relics of a better age finally reappeared! And have to be carried home 😄

What a brilliant test of whether a system actually understands or just acts probabilistically. I wouldn't be surprised if it failed the same test with text.

tfw you forgot about `position: sticky` and made increasingly elaborate configurations around `position: fixed` trying to understand what wasn't working

Playing with my boyfriend's nearly 20-year-old DSLR. I'm really amazed in both directions: 1. The DSLR takes such sharper zoomed photos than my phone. Not surprising (it's a big physical lens!) but still. 2. For a physically tiny camera, the Pixel 6 honestly does an astonishingly good job.

The Daily Bugle is the kind of local, locally owned news company that has been systematically eliminated from our America, and it shows

Anthony Oliveira presents "It's Not A Wonderful Life"

Another banger fucking issue; this comic is genuinely one of my favorite things and I can't wait to see more (especially with that fucking ending)

tonight in AVENGERS ACADEMY: everyone loves a WEDDING!!! ...right??? At midnight on Marvel Unlimited!

Everyone watching Pierre Poilievre eat absolute shit in Carleton and respecting Canada's bilingual culture.
