Meet your new cosmic neighbors ☄️ Introducing a swarm of over 2100 new asteroids discovered by NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory! Rubin discovered these asteroids in about 10.5 hours of observing across 7 nights. They've never been seen by humanity before...until now.🔭🧪 youtu.be/DTuq-vBsDJE

What a fun meeting #skao2025! I can not wait to see all the amazing science that will come from the SKAO. It was also great to catch up with so many fantastic scientists - including all these Dutch-affiliated (past, present and/or future) astronomers!

At the #skao2025 conference in Germany this week. Looking forward to catching up with old friends and new (not to mention discussing all the awesome science we can do with the SKA)

Some interesting changes! It is going to be hard to only have 2 extra pages in part 2 to elaborate on part 1 in an substantial way... but at least it is less work for submission.

Come along to my talk on the Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO) at NAC! I have a quiz and a prize!

And that is a wrap! Thanks to everyone that came and had fun at the Beyond Earth Conference #beyondearthconf. Here is to the future of radio space missions!

Mary Knapp @mknapp.bsky.social from @haystack.mit.edu presenting to #beyondearthconf about a megaconstellation for low frequency radio astronomy (GO-LoW). So cool!

And the Beyond Earth: Lunar and Space Missions conference is underway! Great to have space scientists, energisers and policy makers at @astronnl.bsky.social this week #beyondearthconf

Ik ben Nederlander geworden / I have become Dutch Yesterday, I attended my naturalisation ceremony to become Dutch! It is pretty wild to think that 8 years ago this Australian arrived in the Netherlands for a quick 3 year postdoc, with every intention of moving after that.

Off to visit the headquarters of the European Southern Observatory in Munich! Hit me up if you have any suggestions of cafes/restaurants (or want to talk science!)

Very excited to have formed the program for the Beyond Earth: Lunar and Space Radio Missions conference. Lots of awesome science, engineering, tech, missions and people! You can find the program here: www.astron.nl/~callingham/...

The team at ESA mission control has initiated Gaia's final manoeuvre. The spacecraft is now moving away from the second Lagrange point to prevent it interfering with any current or future missions near this scientifically valuable point in space.

Great to have Gummi Stefansson here from @api.uva.nl presenting the @astronnl.bsky.social colloquium on finding rocky worlds!

Even Einstein had a rough time with referees (original and translation) @ethzurich.bsky.social

Awesome to have this result by Iris de Ruiter and team out officially. This paper is a huge step forward for the field of long-period transients as it identifies the systems are all likely white dwarf-non degenerate binaries! www.astronomie.nl/nieuws/en/wh...

Just a reminder that abstract submission for the Beyond Earth: Lunar and Space Radio Missions is in ~10 days. You can find more information here: www.astron.nl/~callingham/...

Come and work with us at @api.uva.nl this summer!

Another day, another inch closer to this boy’s PhDog degree

I can't believe my first edition Charizard could have been worth so much if Brooke from primary school had not stolen it and then put it through the wash. Damn you Brooke, wherever you are nltimes.nl/2025/02/17/p...

We are excited to announce that registration and abstract submission for the conference “Beyond Earth: Lunar and Space Radio Missions” are now open. You can find more details about registration and abstract here: www.astron.nl/beyondearth.

A new university beginning! I have now started as an Associate Professor at @api.uva.nl. I will be four days a week at @astronnl.bsky.social, and one day a week at API. I look forward to continuing the tradition of uniting the strengths of these two institutes!

Another year in books! Some absolute perlers this year.

Christmas baking by Debbie to celebrate Christmas and Antonia’s successful ERC grant!

Great to see radio stars and exoplanets being communicated to kids! www.spacescoop.org/en/scoops/24...

Paper out to co-authors and collaboration. This really has been a project floating around mostly only in my head - so lets wait for the blood bath begin!

Awesome work by Rob on disentangling the magnetic field structure of a brown dwarf from its radio emission.

This is brutal

Working hard at the office to earn his PhDog. 1 year in, 3 more to go.
