One of Russia’s greatest successes was convincing countless Westerners that it only attacked Ukraine due to encroachment by NATO. That’s an argument that gets rejected by actual Ukrainians, who point to Russia’s long history of colonialism, but when they do that a lot of people simply don’t listen.

Russia is the perfect litmus test for if a person's leftism comes from a genuine conviction for human dignity or from being a raging asshole/theater kid. Russia is a white supremacist empire with non-white colonies, owned by billionaires who send starving teenagers to fight in colonial wars.
