Getting back into writing poetry after years of only reading it has been one of the best things for my creativity. #poetry #poet

Having come from a long line of hard-working, blue collar truck drivers, chatting this morning with a true leftist trucker at work was invigorating. Glad see more than just my union steward dad and fam who have brains as well as work ethic (and actual ethics).

Watched the garbage men blow past my trashcan, emptying my neighbor’s 20 feet away. Just my small driveway between can. Peripheral territory. It’s ok. I wouldn’t want to do your job either.

Anyone else ever organize their apps then forget an entire social media entity exists? 😬

I can’t wait for the weekend to be over so I can write. 😮‍💨

In the multiverse there’s a reality where AI is only good at drawing hands but can’t realistically render anything else. ✌️🤞👋🖕🙌🤙👍👎🙏👌

So the worst genre is definitely dystopian nonfiction

I read AI poetry was rated better than human poems. That’s laughable. I asked ChatGPT to double check my iambic pentameter in a sonnet. Claimed it was fine. Had it mark the stresses & it marked it wrong. Then claimed incorrectly that my syllable count was wrong in 2 lines—it wasn’t. AI is no poet. 😏

First acceptance letter of the year! 🎉 This one is for my short story “A Set of Clown Car Keys” 🤡 … I’ll let y’all know if when it’s published.

If I had to recommend 3 things to writers (at all levels), I would start with these 3 (with options for adding more): 1. Be persistent. 2. Be curious about the world, people, history, everything. Expand your horizons. Curiosity is your soil, your ocean, your rock, your air. 3. Never stop learning.

This year most of my efforts went into raising a happy, healthy daughter. Yes, I started submitting stories again (two published), made major revisions on two WIPs, read on five podcasts, and am working with my publisher on the release of my first story collection, but being full-time dad was best.

I received fewer books than at any Christmas in the past 20 years. 🚫📚Thank god! My bookcases are stuffed, the bookends are unemployed, and the foundations of the house have begun to crack under the weight of all that paper.

I showed up a day early for work because there’s an ice storm predicted to begin at 4am and I know my little blue car isn’t going to get me there. Just gonna stay two nights. I brought books, so I’m good. 📚

It’s always nice seeing one’s name in print. Thanks to Dark Horses Magazine for publishing my humorously absurd short story “Starry-Eyed Miniature Catalpas.” Grab a fresh copy off Amazon. #newpublication #author #writer

Did some buzzed writing and submitting this afternoon. We’ll see how that works out.

I’m really enjoying the revision process on my latest novella. I want to see it find a perfect home with the perfect publisher, but at the same time I don’t want to quit playing with its words, its images.

Who wants pie? 🥧
