Op deze dag in 1871 begint de Commune van Parijs, een revolutionaire regering die tot 28 mei aanbleef. De Commune voerde ingrijpende hervormingen door. De Commune werd bloedig neergeslagen door het Franse regeringsleger: 30.000 mensen werden gedood en 40.000 gevangengenomen.

Today, 109 years ago, the Battle of Verdun started. It would be one of the bloodiest and most senseless battles of the Great War. From these trenchlines, close to the French lines, the Germans started the attack on the Bois de Caures, where Lieutenant Colonel Driant died the next day.
