#Bookmail today. Could not resist ordering it after i saw the news that it won best novel at #Stokercon the other day (against some great competition, too!). @gwendolynkiste.bsky.social @sagapressbooks.bsky.social

#Reading this evening.

WHY I LOVE HORROR: Essays on Horror Literature compiled by @raforall.bsky.social September 23rd, 2025--should be on every horror fiction lover's TBR this Halloween season. It will rekindle old flames, ignite new ones, and spark conversation. 🔥 don't miss it! @sagapressbooks.bsky.social

A lot of Americans are evil. That’s why the perfect campaign messaging doesn’t matter. MAGAts don’t want a better life. They want to hurt people.

With these secret masked police tactics and not showing a warrant, how is a person to know whether or not they need to be defending themselves when they're being attacked/detained/whatever you want to call it? Why would be not be justified in pulling out a gun and resisting them/defending himself??

I write mysteries/thrillers. The way you move a plot forward is often by throwing a wrench in the gears. At the moment… I feel like I’m IN a novel and the author looked at us thriving circa 2015 and said ‘enough of that shit, let’s fuck ‘em up.’ And he’s a pantser who doesn’t know how to end it.

I generally am not a re-reader. But with this coming, I might have to re-read THE STAND in preparation. When I read it the first time, its time setting, 1985, was still in the future!!

Such sadness I feel when I see this anniversary noted. He should have been a blip on the screen, jeered from the stage of history before his political life got off the ground. And now we've had ten years of him. Americans have blown it so badly.

Holy shit, this thinking is from the bowels of hell.

This is insane. Republicans have lost their damn minds.

NO!

Great Father's Day gift from my 19-yo daughter. (She peeked at my wish list.) @natcassidy.bsky.social

Nixon resigned for far less than Trump has done. The difference is Nixon understood the experience of shame.

We have entered the "The police is saying that if the police is at your door you are not safe call the police immediately" stage of making America great again

They launched a coup, suffered no consequences for it, won back power, and have used the power to pardon everyone involved while remaking the country through violence and intimidation. It’s just ridiculous to talk about the political violence of yelling at ICE agents within that context.

Disappointed, but probably best to follow the police request today and not attend the No King's protest in St. Cloud, as I'd planned to. bringmethenews.com/minnesota-ne...

Finished #reading this wonder of a novel this morning. Definitely my favorite book so far this year. My first experience of Robert Jackson Bennett, but it surely won't be the last. I will miss Mona.

3 books you've read at least twice (I too rarely reread, but) Heart Shaped Box (Joe Hill) Land of the Living (Nicci French) Dark Matter (Blake Crouch)

Making good progress on this WIP (currently 36,500 words!), but I've realized that trying to keep going after about 9 pm is rarely worthwhile. My mind is bit too weary from the day by that time. So that's a good time to close up the laptop and turn to what I'm currently reading.

It's mind-blowing how little attention this extraordinary statement has received. It's briefly mentioned in a couple news articles, but this MSNBC opinion piece is the only extended discussion of it I've seen: www.msnbc.com/opinion/msnb...

When I tell you the release of The End of the World As We Know It is gonna be big, I mean it’s gonna be BIG. @briankeene.bsky.social. @cgolden.bsky.social. @stephenking.bsky.social.

Chris Hayes tonight. This is great. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePaJ...

leftists: that thing you teach us in school to be terrified of is happening historians: that thing is definitely happening star wars: here is a beat-for-beat breakdown of how the thing happens, but with pew pew lasers. we know you watched it news outlets: these protesters are out of control

My first "real" story was about a haunted pinball machine. It got haunted when a guy in a bar got electrocuted to death by it during a bar fight. Then a dad retrieved it from the trash outside the bar, repaired it, and gave it to his teen son for his birthday. The ghost terrorizes the family.
