You know what's funny? Republicans are against teaching the darker moments of American history, because it puts USA in a bad light. Instead, they are putting us into a dark time that everyone living now will remember. When all people live in fear. Good job guys.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia is still illegally imprisoned in Guatemala. No news articles this week. Apparently the US gov got 188 correct and one or two wrong. But what if that one wrong is you?

The market seems to be pricing in that Trump will fold on tariffs. If you disagree, you should short major broad indexes or get out of your long equity holdings.

I agree with the researchers that the experiment was good. We need to know how persuasive ai is. Picking one subreddit, and two issues, that don't advocate harm or trauma, seems very reasonable. Blocking publishing of the research is bad policy. www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

Freaky Tales at the Grand Lake Theater last night was a blast! Lots of people, lots of energy, the film anchors on the Grand Lake so much hooting and hollering whenever it came up!

Dear Canada. I would love to pursue residence in your country. I have many skills, despite being older, can support myself, and play a mean cello, and have Canadian friends. But you don't want my sort, on any terms, so mexico it will be. The brian drain could be towards canada, if you let it.

I just realized car camping with an ev means a sweet little induction cooktop and an electric kettle for coffee. No more tramping hydrocarbons around. Along with the electric ice chest.

@scottwiener.bsky.social PGE long term investment funds should be paid by issuing stock. Stock issuance is not a loan and doesn't get paid by rate payers later with interest. The money comes from current share holders, essentially, who are the people who benefitted from past actions. Do it.

5 takeaways about NPR's reporting on the whistleblower report about DOGE at the NLRB . This has some amazing paragraphs buried in dry words about best practices. www.npr.org/2025/04/15/n... ,🧵

Are there any good sources of DOGE using tax data to find unauthorized immigrants? It is about the only way to get enough addresses at scale to do the door knocking necessary, that i can think of, but i also thought we had laws (ha).

. @scottwiener.bsky.social san mateo is opposing a reasonable caltrans project at 92 and 101 because eminent domain of 17 houses and 2 parks. Isn't this the same progressive as barrier you have been talking about? Are you for or against?

Did the Supreme Court set a standard for meaningful judicial review? It is incorrect for every immigration court to use criminal justice standards, but there should be a defined standard, like how Congress defines the UCMJ

I still have no understanding why we would have a trade war with Canada. Unlike counties with dubious laws or environmental practices, or we might actually have a border beef with, Canada is a great country that compliments America. I mean, Canada? Really?

I am not sure most people understand the logistical scale of mass deportation that Trump has promised. Deporting 2M people a year is much closer to the logistics of feeding the camps in Germany in between 1940 and 1944. Except Germany had the element of surprise and used domestic transport (trains).

Don't bother boycotting Tesla. Musk doesn't care, Tesla has already changed the world, and he doesn't care about money like that. The bad policy comes from the administration. If you want a different outcome, protest that. Political speech is your right and power.

Democrats, you have to make the case that federal cuts impact services rendered, not employees lives. If the va cant treat sick veteran, if kids go hungry, if planes crash, they weren't cutting waste and fraud. Show pictures of hungry and sick veterans, eg.

There is no way tesla matters to Musk anymore. It is only one of his companies, and succeeded in changing the world. If you think he cares about a few billion dollars, you werent paying attention to Twitter. How about spending energy on something that matters?

Texas has an outbreak of measles, once considered eradicated. 16 percent are unvaccinated. It's likely children will bear the brunt.

Ukraine: when we and russian asked them to give you nukes, we both promised territorian integrity. We still owe them for those nukes. Putin wouldnt have invaded if ukraine was nuclear. America should have the honor that Russia lacks.

The Federal government's job is to invest in long term benefit for all citizens which is likely to pay off and can't be done (or trusted to) a single private company. Like the FAA. Like freeways. Like climate change. Just a reminder for fanbois of very limited government.

Wow, people who voted for Trump thought he was a successful business man. Not the guy who bankrupted 4 businesses and would 'stiff' (unlawfully not pay) suppliers and contractors.

The executive branch of government must abide by the laws Congress passes. And judges interpret those laws. That is one of the critical checks and balances of the American system. Duuuuuuuh.

I figured out why Zuck dismantled fact checking on Fb properties. He realized the Trump administration would turn it against actual facts. Fb would have to remove posts and accounts referring to J6 acts as sedition, for example. Better no fact checking than Trump's facts only. And, favor was curried

@adamserwer.bsky.social at best, children whose countries won't accept them could be covered by a carve out. Parents who lack resources to go to their home country? I am sure the racist republicans would fund flights. Anyway, i hope to see a followup about this massive number of stateless people.

@adamserwer.bsky.social i am all for calling out the racism, and calling out the ruling post ww2 that defined "under the authority of", but this claim of massive numbers of stateless people is everywhere now and i can't figure it out.

@adamserwer.bsky.social i am trying to understand an aspect of your article on birthright citizenship. You state that an underclass of stateless people will be created. But citizenship will come from the parent (jus sanguis). A majority of countries don't have birthright citizenship.

The changes made by executive order by Trump in the last few days were typically reserved for lawmakers. But with a broken legislative body since Obama, action has to be taken by the executive branch, and we accept this. A sad state of affairs.

Google mobile feature i want. Translate voice but someone speaking farther away. Like an announcement at an airport, or a public lecture, or a person at a restaurant explaining a dish, none of whom will get within inches of your phone and speak into it. @searchliaison.bsky.social (pls forward?)

@sammyroth.bsky.social How about an article on California's inflexible rate structures which don't take into account the new ways of generating electricity, and how they could change? Not talking about demand shedding, talking about pricing.
