Common Blues at #AshlawncuttingLNR If numbers keep building it's going to be the best year for ages for them. @warwickshirewt.bsky.social @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

Brace yourself for a few of my favourite green butterfly posts! Was treated to a few on the lunch time walk 😀 At Stocking cutting. #green #butterfly @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Butterflies, moth larva and Bird were all paart of the web of life in my garden today. #WildwebsWednesday I've never seen a Speckled Wood visit a flower 🤔. @savebutterflies.bsky.social @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

First Brimstone eggs on my Alder Buckthorn, planted 2 years ago in my Warwickshire garden! @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

Stop Press....again. We thought it was a Holly Blue spotted while we were walking in #AshlawncuttingLNR before today's work party . On looking through the viewfinder it was apparent that it's a very early and unexpected male Common Blue. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @warwickshirewt.bsky.social

Small Blue sitting pretty on a blade of grass. I counted 2 on my transect in Southam today. Out earlier than last year. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @ukbms.bsky.social

Another species to add to the first sightings list! Was 10 species added in April, now 11 👏

Thanks to Arden Ringers for the invitation and coming to do the ringing work at Kilsby Lane LWS in Rugby. Lots of Willow and other Warblers here . Great scrub/grassland mosaic. See ALT for descriptions. @btobirds.bsky.social @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

I like that we're now reporting first sightings of common day-flying moths. A few of my favourites are already out - I look forward to the first Chimney Sweepers. I've recently found a few sites with flowering pignut, which is a near-guarantee of the lovely little moth.

10 species added to the 1st sightings list in April. Thankyou to everyone who records butterflies & moths especially adding them to I-record!

Very excited to spot my 1st Speckled Wood egg on Monday! I was recording nature for the City Nature Challenge in Priory Park, Warwick & saw this! @savebutterflies.bsky.social @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social

Cinnabar moth spotted on lunch break today. Love the red & black pattern. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social #moths

Saw my 1st Small Copper of the year yesterday at Ryton Meadows reserve. Such fun little butterflies 😀 Here’s a mini video of it sitting on a cowslip! #butterflies @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Male and Female Dingy Skippr #butterflies on the larval food plant and a Gren Hairstreak butterfly egg laying on Dogwood were among the delights @warwickshirecc.bsky.social Stockton Cutting this afternoon. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social One SSSI in improving condition :-).

Always worth checking around your moth trap. Some moths like to chill on the outside 😆 This pale tussock being one of them. What’s your best out-of-moth trap find? 📷 K.Thorpe

My second ever Lunar Marbled Brown, after the first one back in 2019, and a pale/faded Pine Beauty, a species with just a few records here, were the best of 33 moths of 18 species to my Solihull garden moth trap last night @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

12 of 7 in this morning's trap with 2 NFY (3 Shuttle-shaped Dart and this smart Maiden's Blush). Also Brindled Beauty, 2 Muslin Moth, 3 Brindled Pug, Common Plume and Twenty-plume Moth B74 VC38 SK10 @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @ecorecord.bsky.social @ruthnewby.bsky.social

A few pug moths amongst last nigths catch here in Solihull including this one that had me stumped for a while until a photo showed it to be a pale Foxglove Pug @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

Face-off with a female Holly blue butterfly. She won. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @warwickshirewt.bsky.social

The Small Blue is the friendliest of butterflies! This one landed on me a few times and was happy sitting here giving me a few kisses. 😘 Wish all were this sweet! #butterdlies #smallblue @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

A simple but effective technique that everyone can do to help butterflies. On our website, in the newsletter section we have written a photographic guide for planting garlic mustard. butterfly-conservation.org/.../magazine....

Nice to see a few Dingy Skippers today. They fly quite low down & zip around but they also like to perch on flowers & bare ground. Also nice that they are close to home too 😀 @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social #butterflies

A confused Small Tortoiseshell trying it on with a Peacock at my local spot by Wagon Lane Solihull this afternoon. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

A male Orange-tip unsuccessfully trying to court a female seen at my local spot by Wagon Lane Solihull this afternoon @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @savebutterflies.bsky.social

It wasn't very good weather for seeing insects today but time spent at Stockton Spoil Bank @warwickshirecc.bsky.social Country Parks messing about with camera settings was engrossing. @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social @coleopsoc.bsky.social #photography

It's been a double skipper week! Both Grizzled & Dingy skippers have been recorded. These sun loving butterflies are 2 of our key species in Warwickshire, working with and on behalf of landowners to improve the fortunes of these butterflies 📷K.Warmington & S.Cheshire

Very enjoyable afternoon spent in Sutton Park with CMR David Brown giving a masterclass on how to position the Emperor moth lure to attract even on a dull, damp day. Thanks to @bcwarwickshire.bsky.social for organising #teammoth

One of three Emperor Moths seen on BC Warwickshire's guided moth walk in Sutton Park NNR today.
