My only federal job was as a seasonal reptile field tech for the USGS studying reptile and amphibian populations in Utah and Wyoming. I was issued one pencil and told not to lose it. I was given a couple AA batteries for a handheld GPS and told not not to leave the GPS on to “waste” the batteries.
