A comparison of what we see from geostationary infrared imagery vs. what we get when passive microwave imagery like what SSMIS provides is available. This is Hurricane Otis in 2023 as it was gearing up for extremely rapid intensification prior to impacting Acapulco as a category 5 storm.

I did a handful of interviews yesterday on the imminent shutdown of SSMIS data flow and the expected consequences for hurricane forecasting at NHC. I've tried to collect and polish up my thoughts on the topic, attached...

Your 'moment of doom' for June 27, 2025 ~ If? "If the Amazon hits a tipping point, our calculations show we are going to lose 50-70% of the forest. That would release between 200 and 250bn tonnes of carbon dioxide between 2050 and 2100..."

Your 'moment of doom' for June 24, 2025 ~ Unsustainable "Climate models are likely understating the relationship between climate change and persistent summer weather extremes today and under predicting the potential for future increases in such extremes" www.cnn.com/2025/06/23/c...

#ClimateChange June 26, 2025 Here is an interesting map from the Climate Shift Index project. How much more likely is the current heatwave, because of climate change? The colors represent how much more likely an event is to occur. More information here csi.climatecentral.org/climate-shif....

Today's Climate Shift Index (CSI) is highlighting just how much climate change has made today's heat wave more likely to occur, especially for the warm nighttime temperatures. Follow along with real-time and forecast CSI global maps from @climatecentral.org at csi.climatecentral.org/climate-shif...

Spot on, as usual, from @doctorvive.bsky.social... "We need to correct a false narrative that the #climate threat is under control. These enormous risks are potentially catastrophic. They would undo the connections between human & ecological systems that form the basis of all of our civilisation"

Yesterday was JFK Airport’s first June 100F (37.8C) day on record. Today is now its second. #nywx

Alexa, show me what a total disdain for science looks like. www.scientificamerican.com/article/trum...

#GulfofMexico #ClimateChange #Ocean #Weather #Climate #Hurricane 6/24/25 The Gulf of Mexico waters just hit a new high (going back to 1991). The waters are warm. Not great news for the hurricane season (among other things).

#ShowYourStripesDay #ClimateChange #Climate #MOwx The change is undeniable and accelerating.

June 21 is Show Your Stripes Day—a time to spark conversation about how our world is warming. This video shows how @noaa.gov temperature data for the U.S. is turned into the iconic stripes visualizations you may see shared today and tomorrow. @edhawkins.org

Wild how the Fed chair saying that *entire regions of the United States* won’t be able to get a mortgage in the next decade barely registered as a news event

Let's check in and see how summer temperatures have changed during the last 50 years. 🔥🔥🔥

Lets see how the average summer cloudiness has changed over the last 50 years. ☀️☁️

For all the people complaining about the cool/cold, it was in the top 1/3 of warmest Mays since 1895 and it was the 8th warmest spring (Mar-May) since 1895.
