Monday #THEProteomicsShow release? Yep. This week @proteomicsnews.bsky.social and I got to talk with Anna Barker and it 100% deserves a listen. Find it wherever you find fine podcasts or at anchor.fm/theproteomic... Bonus, check out Ep 39 for more CPTAC fun (pretty sure she recruited him over).

Did the fifth element just win Eurovision, cause I loved it. I’m sad about Sweden but as a first time watching the whole finals, this was great.

I’m still rocking a 2010 MBP (currently decorated with stickers by my 10 yo daughter), which is now hitting software support limits, but is great (and upgradable). Omg, it’s older than all my kids, and marriage!

I think Kristin Burnum-Johnson presented this at US HUPO 2024, but it is really cool to read. Combining MALDI imaging metabolomics and lipidomics with LCM proteomics (microPOTS) to identify cell-specific pathways is super cool. Still a fav guest on podcast (Ep 29). www.nature.com/articles/s41...

I am following my heart (and advice from @magnuspalmblad.bsky.social) to use this video as my inspiration for an upcoming talk. Will it work, maybe not. Will it be fun, most definitely. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cv6t...

Things you didn't need to know: computers don't use terabytes they use tebibytes which are 2^40 bytes (1,099,511,627,776), which explains why your 1 TB drive won't show up as 1 TB. SI units anyone?! (yes, I see you did it right mac/linux) blog.livedrive.com/2012/08/why-...

The link for what seems like a fun paper (and resource) that I need to check out. On the surface it reminds me of one of my favorite @originalastacus.bsky.social papers. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40298292/

If you or someone you know gets invited to be on #THEProteomicsShow with me and @proteomicsnews.bsky.social, please know that if we get turned down too much it increases the likelihood we do something dumb for an episode instead, like watch a movie, read an agenda or who knows (open to suggestions).

So... we've had some HVAC issues for some weeks, but today we lost all chillers. You know that line in Chernobyl (HBO), well I think we are about to have a "this is how our fathers scienced" moment. [not Chernobyl image, cause, well, you know why, but a close second. 👀 @proteomicsnews.bsky.social ]

The human pangenome continues to grow and improve! Release 2 is here! Click through for the details, but this is a pretty amazing dataset including not just the phased assemblies, but PacBio HiFi, ONT Ultralong, Dovetail/Illumina Hi-C, PacBio Kinnex, and Illumina WGS for all samples

This piece from @quantamagazine.bsky.social is worth a read for sure. "Some pushback came because a few people did not consider certain subjects I studied to be “serious.” Others were upset because I was emphasizing what seemed to them unscientific aspects."

Random junk mail today and I legit was excited cause I’ve been looking for peptides closer to 300 amino acids long… Nope, not that kind of peptide service. 😔 (And why am on this list? 🤷‍♂️)

So I know I can give LLMs a writing style and then ask them to match it. But I wanted to test the concept for images. So here is the announcement caricature of me for winning the Nobel, though I guess I’m also older (same ears 🤷‍♂️). Conclusion is same approach for text can be used for images.

No joke, our B-sides are 🔥🔥🔥. This week Rob Beynon joined @proteomicsnews.bsky.social and me on #THEProteomicsShow. We didn’t get to talk about *everything*, but we hit some fan favs for sure. Find it wherever you find fine podcasts, or here: anchor.fm/theproteomic...

I am not picking on these authors or this paper, I can find plenty of similar examples, and I get that there are fees... but the irony makes me laugh every time.

Btw, if anyone is listening in the void, I would definitely love to work in this sector… which btw is not how you get a job. You’ve got to get some meetings, then get ghosted since they don’t seem to like saying “it’s not gonna work”. Yes, this aspect of industry (broad strokes) annoys me greatly.
