I read 13 of these when I was a child. How many of them are still read today, I wonder? I'm currently relishingWuthering Heights.

Peace in Europe. There's no victory in war.

You could write a scary book about that photo!

The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is one of the scariest books I've ever read. Lovely, flowing, immensely satisfying read.

On one of my rare 'live' school visits, I shared The Seamaiden's 0dyssey with a very receptive Yr 7 at All Saints in Sheffield

This article is really interesting thorough, and massively important. Do read it.

I absolutely agree! I love this play! www.telegraph.co.uk/theatre/what...

Oh gosh, thank you!

I'm back with Kate Grenville books just now, reading Restless Dolly Maunder. But my head is still with Jane Gardam. They have a similar sense of place and eye for detail, do you think?

Great film for Dylan/Byaz/Seeger lovers, A Complete Unknown. I loved it.

The Guardian reports that in his speech at the Reading Rights Summit in Liverpool, Frank Cottrell-Boyce referred to 'children, who instead of turning the pages, try to swipe them or make the pictures grow bigger with their fingers.' A good point. Early skills, but where is the sharing?

Lovely!

I've only read one of these titles so far and I really loved it. It's always a joy to watch the progress of talented new writers for children #BrandfordBoaseAward

I'd love it, I know!

We don’t care if you’re a royal or David Beckham, we’ll call you out for the vile practice of bird shooting. It’s repulsive, cruel, and utterly shameful. There’s no excuse for this vile practice.

This is always such a fantastic introduction to different children’s books - and this month features one of our favourites for 2025, Cloud Boy by Greg Stobbs, out next month!

My favourite Jane Gardam!

I'm lovingly re-uniting with Jane Gardam books, and it's like meeting up with old friends. And I've just started reading one I've never met before; Crusoe's Daughter. I'm making a new friend! Do you have a favourite to recommend?

Julia Donaldson is now the best selling author since records began! This is such a wonderful achievement for an author who opens the world of the imagination to very young readers.

Wow!

I was in a cafe yesterday. The 2 women sitting on one side were sharing their creative writing. On the other side, 2 men were deep in discussion about Catcher in the Rye. I felt completely at home!

I absolutely love this book of memoirs. It reminds me that Alan Garner is truly one of our greatest living authors. What do you think?

Ooh, thank you Cathie!

I am SO relieved to have broken away from X at last! Long overdue ...
