CBO is a nonpartisan, neutral org. Its director, Phill Swagel, worked in the GWBush administration and was appointed by Republican lawmakers to his current post. For many reasons, it's laughable that he or his professional colleagues would be cooking the books to help Democrats.

PRO PUBLICA: Of the 238 men sent to an El Salvador mega prison, only 6 had prior violent crime convictions. 0 were on the gang member list. 130 had no criminal history. 32 had minor offenses. All 238 thought they were being sent back to Venezuela. www.instagram.com/p/DKcjM7FPhz...

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost

Demonstrating yet again that the members of this administration are bigoted, offensive and petty to their core.

The White House's stated intent to use expedited removal for this guy's family is flatly ILLEGAL. By law, expedited removal ONLY applies to people not admitted at a port of entry, or here without having been "admitted or paroled" into the US. But his family was admitted at an airport on visas!

Sen. Ernst after her 'we're all going to die' comment: "I’m very compassionate"

This horrific bit from Jessica Valenti's substack: WV prosecutor Tom Truman said if women who miscarry want to avoid arrest, they should “call 911” to tell them that their pregnancy has ended: “Call your doctor. Call law enforcement, or 911, and just say, ‘I miscarried. I want you to know.’”

More tariffs, it must be Tuesday. TACO Tuesday.

They invoke NYT to try and garner support from MAGA, but the truth is that people across the ideological spectrum from far right to far left think this is BS.

Ric Grenell has been running it, so I’m sure he will accept responsibility. As MAGA does.

This is what’s needed. Intelligent people witnessing the dangerous consequences of foolish gutting of important agencies and both warning the public and urging them to call their representatives. Next we likely need meteorologists leading street protests.

I'll say this: Harvey Milk's name, decades upon decades from now, will still be revered in the pages of history and the hearts of students of civil rights. Pete Hegseth's name, on the other hand, will prompt only one response: "Who the fuck was that?" www.military.com/daily-news/2...

Sen. Booker (D-NJ): “I am sick and tired of hearing this kind of heated partisan rhetoric, which is one of the reasons we have divisions in this country. The attacks we see from POTUS, trolling and dragging judges is what we should be talking about that puts people in danger.”

It took me a while, but I can now see a purpose in speaking to the discussion of my departure from Yale for the University of Toronto. Here I address four public framings of last year’s move that arose in recent weeks, which tell us something of our present moment snyder.substack.com/p/last-years...

There is more than sufficient evidence to open a federal hate crime case under 18 USC 249. This is precisely the type of crime the Shepard-Byrne ACT was passed to permit the feds to prosecute. Important to watch what DOJ does here. www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/...

1. Florida banned cities from lighting up bridges rainbow colors for Pride. So the people of Jacksonville did it themselves using flashlights and gels. They opened the drawbridge to block them. So they marched to a different bridge. The latest from S. Baum. Subscribe to support our journalism.

My home of Missoula just voted to establish the pride flag as an official government flag of the city, thereby circumventing the state's asinine pride flag ban. 🏳️‍🌈 Missoula is once again showing how to fight back against policies that seek to erase the LGBTQ community.

A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from invalidating work permits that granted legal status to 5,000 Venezuelans, a subset of the nearly 350,000 whose temporary legal protections the U.S. Supreme Court last month allowed to be terminated. buff.ly/EUKjOzQ

🚨NEW: 6 Nobel laureate economists signed an open letter opposing the House budget bill 🚨 The bill adds significantly to the national debt while reducing incomes for the bottom 40%, they say. The most acute & immediate damage? Millions losing Medicaid & SNAP benefits: www.epi.org/publication/...

While Trump was demeaning Pres. Zelensky in the Oval Office and sneering he has “no cards,” Zelensky was planning a major Russian attack that has successfully damaged or destroyed some 41 aircraft deep inside Russia.

The man on the left is defending his nation's capital. The man on the right plotted an attack on his.

In Greek mythology, Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water.

A Nazi salute isn't created by how you hold your hand at the end, it is created by how you get there, with a vigorous thrust, not a gentle wave. This is why Musk is using photos instead of videos to obfuscate.

no it’s actually because of the slavery

This is a lie that you're going to be seeing a lot. The reality is a bit complicated, though. 🧵 The monster who carried out this attack entered on a B-2 tourist visa in 2022, which reportedly expired in 2023. Tourist visas last 10 years, so that means he got the visa in 2013 — NOT under Biden.

"Musk is a greedy kleptocrat whose life’s work boils down to stealing from the poor to pad his own bottom line. That’s his legacy. He could’ve changed the world for the better; he had every resource available to him to do so. Instead, he made it markedly worse."

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) is coming under fire for what some called a "threat" he made aimed at Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Expected a proper apology from Joni Ernst? Nope. “Nothing of the pain her constituent felt. Nothing of the fear and distress felt widely among senior citizens. Just selfish, arrogant mockery intended for anyone that would dare to criticize her words.” www.americaamerica.news/p/free-to-be...

"Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal," wrote Bhattacharya right before the largest COVID death wave. Hard to think of anyone worse to head the largest scientific research agency than a man who is both absolutely certain and absolutely wrong.

Flood the line.

The GOP is setting up Democrats to be the "fall guy" for their unpopular moves, according to Bloomberg columnist Erika D. Smith.

The Washington Examiner (the conservative news outlet) reports that Stephen Miller screamed at ICE officials: "What do you mean you're going after criminals? Why aren't you at Home Depot? Why aren't you at 7-Eleven?" Kinda blows up the narrative that they care about public safety.

Trump’s America tells the world: “We don’t need you.” Now the world is answering back: “Same to you.” From student deportations to tourist boycotts and brand backlash, we’re paying the price for Trump’s hostility. Read more adamkinzinger.substack.com/p/from-beaco...

The idea that New York City is finally putting its trash in cans, long after most urban civilizations have done so, has led to a fair amount of ridicule. But it is a significant change in a city where piles of trash bags have clogged sidewalks for decades. trib.al/UgFE4pJ
