Whatever this is thankfully hasn't hit my Google Docs but turning off Labs in Drive settings is supposed to kill gen AI stuff you can't opt out of. Plus: In Slides & Docs: Tools > Preferences then turn off Smart options. In Sheets: Tools > Suggestion Controls, turn off Autocomplete.

The new Google AI functionality in Docs is total mind-ruining shit. Hit enter in docs, it takes over your cursor to offer to help you write. Every. Time. You. Hit. Enter. Do you know how annoying that is when you are writing something? It's someone interrupting you every minute. MAKE IT STOP.

At first I thought this was incredibly creepy, and then I realized something intriguing. So I'm composing a novel in Google docs, as I am wont to do. And suddenly the AI assistant Gemini pops in (annoyingly) and summarizes my work in progress. It was eerily accurate. (1/5)
