HAPPENING NOW: A federal judge is set to hold a hearing on Governor Gavin Newsom’s request for a temporary restraining order that would bar the Trump administration’s use of the state national guard amid protests against immigration raids in LA. Hearing starting now before Judge Breyer 🧵⬇️

Modern tyranny is terror management. snyder.substack.com/p/the-next-t...

The part of me that still has some hope for this country believes people, seeing the video of Senator Padilla being assaulted, plus brown communities being terrorized in LA, will be too much for the majority. But, then again, this is America, so...

I am not an historian. But our nation's collective lack of historical proficiency has caught up to us.

I think it's worse than that, they are intentionally aiming at non-criminal day laborers, people attending their court/immigration appointments, etc, because they're easier to catch

It’s not illegal for a United States Senator to go to a public press conference and ask questions about your constituents safety. It's our job.

A DHS official told me Noem & security had no idea who Senator Padilla was. Now, the FBI is running with the statement that the senator "did not identify himself and was not wearing his senate security pin" — but he very much did identify himself, loudly, on video...

277 men remain imprisoned at CECOT after they were illegally rendered without due process from the United States. (And one is, thankfully, back in the United States, facing Trumped up charges that were filed in a pathetic attempt to save face.)

In no universe did Senator Alex Padilla “lunge” at anyone. This administration is full of pathological liars.

so they've moved along to liberating the city from the governor and the mayor?

“We need answers” and what will you do with those answers when you get them? Because the time for expecting people to resign on their own accord has passed.

A long-running U.S. investigation of MS-13 has uncovered evidence at odds with Bukele’s reputation as a crime fighter. The inquiry, which began as an effort to dismantle the gang’s leadership, expanded to focus on whether the Bukele government cut a secret deal with MS-13 in the early years of ….

Just so we're all clear: It's not a coincidence that the first senator they've used physical force against is Sen. Alex Padilla, a Latino man representing California.

This is the most straightforward thing they've said so far. They're using the military to "liberate" Los Angeles from its mayor and governor.

They know exactly what they're doing

TV industry's ability to punch itself in the face remains undefeated. Star Trek--an OG example of "tv episodes can work each week on their own"--came up with a show, the fun Strange New Worlds, that could RUN FOREVER, so of course they're ending it w/a truncated S5 🤡 variety.com/2025/tv/news...

Seems worth noting that Noem's story is that "no one knew who" Padilla was. Hmmm. You're in CA with US marines in LA. CA.... I think two senators? You don't know what one of the state's two senators looks like?

Already getting the “what would you have them do?” assholes when I ask senators what they plan to actually do. For starters, they can shut down the Senate. They can also do what their colleague did: start attending press conferences and asking questions. This isn’t hard. You just have to want to.

Call your senators, demand they shut the Senate down.

SHUT. IT. DOWN. A senator was dragged out of a press conference for standing up for his constituents and against fascism. Watch how your representatives and senators respond to their own colleague being treated like this. That'll show you how they'll react when it's *you* on the ground.
